This is my personal experience, and while it may not reflect everyoneâs, I felt compelled to share what happened today, 12/01/2025, in a post-apartheid context.
As people of colour, we walked into the pub and were immediately profiled. How? Well, we were ignored at the door and left to fend for ourselves as we searched for a seat in a largely empty space. The patrons seemed surprised by our presence, almost as if we were unwelcome visitors.
We were eventually served, and I want to emphasise that the waitstaff werenât the issue. However, the environment was uninviting: the floor was sticky, the tables were grimy, and the place had a musty smell.
After a drink and a spilled hot chocolate (which wasnât our fault, yet we were given a serviette to clean the broken mug), we received the bill and quickly left, feeling the cold stares of the other patrons and the overall indifference of the waiters.
If youâre unfamiliar with the space, Iâd suggest avoiding it. Iâve been a loyal follower of this place for a while, but this experience made me realise that sometimes, itâs best not to...
Read moreA lovely new option for just meeting with friends, great morning coffee, exciting breakfast options and a spot to work from. We were greeted and served by Donovan, who oversees the cafĂ©, is the barista and a lovely young man, who loves what he does. He explains the food in detail and I suggest asking him for recommendations if youâre not sure what to eat. I had the Grande Flat White coffee, which I loved. My guests enjoyed the sweet hot chocolate, creamy latte, fresh scones and chocolate muffin. I opted for the Pulled Pork Baguette, which I really enjoyed. The fresh and tasty pulled pork meat in a lovely sauce, caramelized onions and the right hint of thyme in between a fresh crisp baguette was a treat for breakfast. They also have a lovely counter top area against the window where you can sip on your latte and bang away on your laptop keyboard. Or just chill on the comfy lounge area...
Read moreBest place to watch sport. There are TVs everywhere plus a giant screen. If you expect a restaurant vibe, complain about noise or being too busy, you're in the wrong place. Read "Sports Diner". Food always has been of good quality, hard to find a better burger. Excellent service.
2021- ordered 4 burgers. 2 kids, 2 adults. Menu has changed so Asked if it comes with chips, was told no, so we asked for chips with each. We received 4 huge servings of chips. Waitress never bothered to tell us it's going to be way too much. She preferred to collect the tip on almost a R200 extra charge. Dagwood not worth the extra charge either and now over priced. Meal prices are above average. After more than 15 years loyalty, drops to 3 stars. Used to be a regular visit but now it's...
