I've been supporting & recommending Kauai for more than 2 decades but the quality of food has fallen so far that no matter how badly I want to keep supporting them I cannot - a far cry from why it was founded in 1996.
Not putting this out on a whim - been talking to staff, submitted complaints to HQ and engaged with store owners, which to their credit resulted in changes but unfortunately it quickly regresses.
For years the food portions have become smaller whilst prices go up, a result of the economy one could argue. Or can you?
Then food quality went down the drain, you'll easily find Woolworths packaged meals from 3 days ago that are more fresh than the meal they present as prepped a few minutes ago - unless the fresh chicken is meant to be chicken biltong?
The most recent experience was at Jean Crossing but the same is happening at other stores so I won't point to a single store.
Kauai, please don't bother to respond to this or contact me - that ship has sailed.
If this comes across as bitter I apologize, it's just how severe...
Read moreI usually avoid writing bad reviews, but this one is well-deserved, and because it was particularly consequential in how the rest of my day panned out. I placed an order and went shopping at a nearby Woolies. When I returned, my order was ready but incorrect, despite ensuring the cashier understood my request.
What really frustrates me is that they didn't even apologize. I had to wait an additional 15 minutes in their tiny, steamy shop during summer for a new meal to be cooked from scratch—without a single "Sorry for the inconvenience." As a result, I was late for my next appointment.
This is unacceptable treatment of a long-time customer. Rest assured, you will never see me again.
Businesses often blame external factors like the economy, the boogeyman or the government when they are forced to shut down or scale down operations, instead of reflecting on their own shortcomings. Mistakes happen, but a simple apology...
Read moreThe first bite was delicious! But as I took more bites, I realised there were no chicken pieces in. I ordered the princess wrap. It's R97 rand. For that price, I'd expect at least one or 2 pieces of chicken. There wasn't a piece of chicken in sight. The lady at the till also kept coughing into her hands and using it to ring everything up without sanitiser and close to the open ingredients, so it was a little bit off-putting. But I love the location of this Kauai, and I will give it another shot. UPDATE* I went back and ordered the Moroccon wrap and a smoothy. I love their pressed juices, too, and the extra products/puddings they offer. The last time I was there, it seemed all sanitary and clean. I would recommend the soup and the bowls too, it's full of healthy ingredients and the...
