I just love this place, we arrived in 3hours before an appointment so you can guess that it was quite early. Everything was closed, and by accident we stumbled across this unique jewel hidden in a square where we were kindly welcomed by a man called Steven. He humbly open the dores and explain that the staff wasn't in yet but offered to personally make us a delicious cappuccino while we wait for our appointment. He then graced us with his lively hospitality, making us feel right at home with the utmost interesting history of the place and its surroundings.
I was astonished by the decorative interior and exterior of the place with nothing but high quality wooden furniture that at first sight will take your breath away, it was like i stepped into a 10/10 elite but with a remarkable twist of feeling so welcomed and home like I've been dining here forever.
As we sadly had to attend to the appointment a surprising gesture of on the house no charge bill, Steven got us locked down in love with the place and company that we returned after the appointment for some food and good company.
On arrival they actually reserved a seating place for us, by that time the atmosphere was lively with a variety of culture and diversity.
The service is admirable with waiters that attend to your every need, even if your a little bit of fussy.
While it would be an under statement saying that this place is way beter than "Jan se skuld" or "Die padstal", I would absolutely not just recommend but insist that you find your way to THE MOST cozy, homely, high-end 10/10 quality, with great and welcoming service that makes you feel right at home and attended to your satisfactory restaurant that caters for all you can eat and drink, especially high-end brandy, Whiskey and a variety of beers.
It is a great place for family and friends, business meetings, couple outings as well as solo seating since your never really alone having such a welcoming party making sure that each and every customer is welcomed, greeted, attended and included as if they were part of the family, a home away from home.
I want to give thanks for the great experience and emphasize on the profoundly skilled hospitality that you deliver and i want you to know that it was wholeheartedly appreciated, you don't get that much these days. We will definitely be returning soon, especially after being challenged a...

1 Sentence description: Pretoria’s perfect place for proper pints and palatable provisions.
What’s good here? Atmosphere, service, meals - all awesome. I normally try to avoid superlatives such as ‘best’ or ‘favourite’, but suffice to say the Spare Ribs I had here were right up there amongst the many, many delectable racks of ribs I’ve sampled in South Africa (and it’s a big list!).
Tender, juicy, lovely tasting marinade and with meat falling off the bone in a heavenly fashion, it’s fair to say I consider the ribs exceptional. However, it wasn’t just the ribs that made this special.
Spring Chicken was terrific; the Peri Peri was subtly spicy without being OTT whilst the Lemon and Herb was moreish without being ‘too’ mild.
Even the bread was top notch, and the beers - well, if you’re looking for a wide range of top end ales and craft beers well served at great prices, relax - your quest can end here.
Side note - I found perhaps some amazing Peri Peri table sauce here. Mr Spices ‘LM Peri Peri’ and I’d heartily recommend looking out for it.
What’s an ‘Opportunity for Improvement’? Why is there only one of these? It’s a winning formula that whilst simple, it’s done extremely well.
Tell me more In honesty, we nearly missed this - and we’d have been gutted if we did. I was looking for somewhere to hang out for a while around Pretoria whilst on an errand, so looked on the Entertainer app to get a ‘Two for One’ deal for takeaway.
Top Tips It’s worth checking out for offers such as the Entertainer app (Buy One Get One Free) as we effectively could have a second chicken whilst paying only for one.
Anything to disclose? No - paying customer, anonymously visited.
How I Rate: I normally rate 1-4, with 5 reserved for ’Exceptional’, i.e. “deviating from the norm” or “truly worthy of note”.
4 stars = very good 3 stars = good 2 stars = average or acceptable 1...
Read more22/11/2020, a Sunday night. Our first time ever visiting. We called at 20:18, we were told by whom ever answered the phone if we can order before 20:30it will be fine. We were there at 20:20 as we were by the garage across from them when we called. Upon arriving we were greeted and seated outside (we wanted the smoking area) We were given menus and asked if we can order quickly as the waiter leaned on our table. After ordering everything in one go we waited patiently for our food. I was very impressed by how the food gets plated, especially the lamb curry! When our food was put down in front of us the waiter said that the manager asks we "hurry up" because they need to leave. We eventually asked for the bill with the idea that when we have paid he might be able to leave. He brought us the bill, walked two tables away from us, sat on the table staring at us while we eat the entire time, talk about horribly uncomfortable. We ended up asking for takeaway bags as we would rather eat at home where we aren't being stared down.. After the "hurry up" and stare down we paid not giving much tip as we really weren't happy, then we were asked why we didn't tip more. We explained that we weren't happy at all and that would be our first and last visit to Machics. He then complained about how his friends have already left and he needs to travel home alone, also that the tip isn't enough. I find it rude, I have also been a waiter for a few years in my life and this guy has no manners and no etiquette. We were there for a total of 30minutes, after we left there were still other customers but it was important that we leave? As much as we LOVE the food we...
