Mugg & Bean — Restaurant in Gauteng

Repeat visit, first following the facelift which was started shortly before Christmas, bad timing on their part but, assume it was not necessarily in their hands. Regardless, not finished with the outdoor area as yet. Indoors, big improvement, aesthetically pleasing, decor depicting coffee cups with coffee grounds, Brownies etc., very enticing. Furnishings are completely new, dark in colours, earthy colours which have coffee tones to them. New crockery as well, cast iron based, also gives the feeling of quality. Smart from a practicality perspective, do not break easily. Consist of black, whit and cream colours, again, easy on the eye. My daughter sums it up as modern and stylish, who am I to argue. Menu, also overhauled and plenty to offer for various diets and our likes. Kids pig out on the bottomless juices and blended cold drinks. A big plus. Service, hey, this is South Africa, some days excellent, others, leave a lot to be desired. Certainly worth a visit. Did I mention, their Americano’s and Espresso’s are about 3/5....

My assumption is that this was done to me because either 1. I'm young or 2 because I'm black. There's no way your waitresses grin until their wisdom teeth show to help everybody else around who's older or maybe has a different skim shade then me but treate like cow dung under their shoes.

I get here order chiclen strips and I ask they are takeaways. A few minutes later I ask a different waitress to please to them that my order to changed to a sit in order. My order was brought to me as a takeaway. Let's say this was a misunderstanding, fine. When my food gets to me , the waitress is irritated that I'm asking that my food to changed to a sit in , meaning I want it in a plate. I let that go. She brings it back and then I ask for some time to think about my drink , again irritated and says "yoh" to me. Trust and believe I will NEVER EVER set foot in your store again. Food - not how it used to be. MNB has become expensive and the food is on a strike

Service - very poor service. waiters was rude, took forever to bring order and neglected me / paid no attention and did not check up on me.

Atmosphere - no longer a place to work. Loud rnb / tiktok music throughout the day instead of usual Italian or soft music. Asked if i could choose another seat or if they could change or lower the music -staff insured me they will change it yet, i had to endure back to back meetings with loud base playing over my head.

Overall - MNB is not what it used to be. Instead of being satisfied with calm jazz music, they now play songs like tipsy by shaboozey, instead of good portions and excellent service we now pay more for less and horrible...
