I visited Mugg & Bean Cresta yesterday and was extremely disappointed — which honestly feels like an understatement. I ordered the chicken mayo toastie with rosemary fries. When my order arrived, it smelt “different”, but I decided to overlook it and added Tabasco sauce to the fries only.

After taking one bite of the sandwich, I realised the chicken was off. I immediately called the waiter and informed him. He simply said, “Let me take that whole plate away,” and walked off. I assumed he would call the manager or at least check if I wanted to order something else — but there was no follow-up, no apology, nothing.

After a while, I had to call the waiter back myself. I asked how it was possible for spoiled food to be served to customers. His response was that the chicken mayo was made the night before and that adding Tabasco could have made it taste that way. I explained that I only added the sauce to the fries, and even if I hadn’t, Tabasco doesn’t make food taste spoiled.

I asked to speak to the manager, and he said she (Lillian) was busy with other customers. I waited over 10 minutes — still no sign of her. Eventually, I asked for the bill (for the coffee I had) and left. The manager never appeared.

I later shared my experience with someone else who mentioned they had a similar incident — a stale cheese toastie and no support from management.

I will not be returning to this Mugg & Bean. There appears to be new management or ownership, but whatever the case, the lack of customer service and food quality is...

06/01/21 - Just had moldy Millionaires and Black Forest cakes at M&B Cresta...disgusting & very disappointing! Got the receipt to show...

Update: 23/01/21 (2 weeks later) - So M&B got in touch with me regarding the review I left (above) and said they were very concerned and disappointed about our experience and asked that I get in touch with them. So the manager of M&B Cresta called me a few days after asking me to come see him.

Today we finally went and instead of cake and cappuccino (our last order), we decided to go for breakfast as it was before noon. Suffice to say, this experience was 100 times better than our last, which I rated with a 1-star 2 weeks ago.

We were required to pay something towards our breakfast bill. So it wasn't a total freebie, which I honestly expected after what happened during our last visit. You can't win them all I suppose.

Breakfast and the service was lovely! Thank you Mandhla and staff for everything! I have now revised my rate of your establishment. I will make sure to pop by next time I'm in South Africa again. I think it's time we...

I have been to quite a few M&Gs and this one is one of the better ones. Service was good and waiters are highly attentive. Meal preparation time was impressively fast and the food was excellent which is something that tends to lack in their other restaurants. I had a burger, enjoyed it but my only query was that the patty was quite small in size in comparison to the bun used other than that, I enjoyed it. By the way, they had this free re-fill juice but couldn't even finish the first glass, bummer. Menu pricing is affordable and I will give then a rating of 8/10. I highly recommend.

Only odd thing we noticed upon entering the restaurant was that the waiters seem to have a tug of war for clients and the waiter seemed to want to impose on where we should sit, which I'm guessing were tables she was responsible for which we declined as we had our own choice. Other than that, we...

One of my favorite places to eat. I have been coming here for years with my grandmother before she passed away, every sunday I would start with a waffle and ice cream paired with a mango smoothy, and it never disappointed me, incredibly consistent and delicious. My gran lived in New York, so we became accustomed to eating their eggs benedict (as she used to gloat about the fact that it couldve been invented there), as a tribute to her heritage. After she passed I found myself coming here often for their eggs benedict as it reminds me of her. Now they even offer a south African twist on the eggs benedict, with boerworse and chakalaka and it is also very good. Moral of the story, spend time with your family and enjoy places that are consistent with their food and service. Amazing place.
