Nice on 4th — Restaurant in Gauteng

We went to Nice today, it has been one of my favourite places in JHB, but today was a really unpleasant experience. I arrived at 14:55, sat outside for 10 minutes with no one coming to serve me. I eventually got up and asked a woman behind the counter in the shop for assistance (I even asked if they were serving outside as I hadn't seen a single waiter), she said yes and walked back to the kitchen. I got up again 10 minutes later and a waiter met to say he would come to assist me (literally a 20 minute wait for a waiter, with only 3 other tables in the store). The first thing the waiter said to me after hello was "we close at 16:00" - please note I had been there waiting for 20 minutes. My husband I ordered meals, my chicken pie was luke-warm and the potatoes were raw (the waiter never came back to check in on the food, so I didn't/couldn't even tell him). We ordered the cake platter and another cappuccino at 15:50, there wasn't enough cake left to complete the cake platter order, I told the waiter any cake BUT the roulade, he brought the roulade, one mini cheesecake and a lemon meringue (charged me for 2 X cheesecakes and lemon meringues), no brownies or cupcakes that I had asked for. All the while the staff were packing up around us and making us feel uncomfortable (it was not yet 16:00). The waiter brought our bill without us asking, charged us for the cappuccino, and EVENTUALLY brought it in a take away cup (after we had to ask twice, even though we had already paid for it). It was really disappointing, cold food, poor, slow service and rushed out of the store. I am really sad as Nice has always been lovely. Probably...

Had such a wonderful brunch experience at this beautiful place. It was quite busy as we got there and so we had to wait like 10 minutes before we got a seat. Ordered the half and half - crumpets and the banting breakfast, and a glass of yummy orange juice 💯

I absolutely love the half and half option for breakfast as you get the best of both worlds. The crumpets were amazing - so light and fluffy with so much flavour. The banting breakfast was just as tasty with one of the best hollandaise sauces I have had. Even though the place was packed to the brim while we ordered, the food came very quickly and there was no compromise on taste or presentation! Kudos to the kitchen staff 👏🏽

They also have a great selection of cakes and other bakery items available with daily specials. I got a chocolate brownie and the strawberry roulade as takeaway - both were in sufficient portions and extremely flavourful. 😍

It was a lovely experience overall even though the waitress on the day was a bit sub par. Will definitely go back and try the other items they have in store 🤩. Absolutely recommend for brunches with family, friends and...

The waitress displayed passive-aggressive behavior after I decided I didn’t feel like eating anything. She snatched the menus off the table and slammed them down on the waiter’s station with such an attitude that it irked both me and my mother. I asked her what her problem was, and she raised her voice, saying I could have told her that from the start. But how was I supposed to know I would change my mind? I don’t need to answer to her.

I had only changed my mind by the second time she came to the table, and my mother politely told her that we had decided we weren’t hungry enough to eat yet, so we would be leaving. Mind you, we didn’t even have water—we had just browsed the menu. Needless to say, we had a tiff, and I stormed off in anger and disgust. She then followed me up the street, saying things in her own language.

I have never encountered this level of insanity in my life. Another waiter came to fetch her; she was obviously having a very bad day and either needs therapy or a career change. I am traumatized and will not show my face there again...
