Ocean Basket Brooklyn — Restaurant in Gauteng

Terrible experience from the moment we walked in.

Arrived 20:10pm, waiter at door said to walk around and find anywhere to be seated. After finding a open table that will had dirty plates on we waited for someone to come take our drink orders.

When our very rude and obnoxious waitress arrived at the table she threw the menus on the table, I asked if I could please get a small sip of the OB white wine before deciding on ordering a bottle, her response was “no, but let me see if I can make a plan” and proceeded to say we need to order right now as their kitchen was closing right now, we had not even had a opportunity to look at the menu? At no point was any of their 30th celebration items discussed with us, and no mention of them on the table either.

She came back with the wine and a plate with just chili and garlic on, stated that there was no bread rolls. Food eventually arrived with 15 mins to spare before their “closing time” and my prawns , calamari and fish was iced cold, chips hot and bland rice seemingly put together with what was left was hot though?!

It is also very unusual how my R180 bite of the ocean plate had less food than my husbands standard fish and chips?

We are big OB lovers and this was the first time we went to this location, never again! Rude staff, weird open room with random decor, no warmth...

Horrible service! This is the second bad experience at Ocean Basket Brooklyn. First experience went for lunch for the Ocean Basket Birthday special. I understand it was busy but we waited over 50 mins for our food to arrive. There were other guests that arrived after us but got served before us. Still the waitress brought the wrong order assuming we wanted the "special". I had requested to speak to the manager who wasnt very helpful and then left without even eating!

Second experience at OB was on the 24.01.2020. I Ordered the prawn and fish combo and side salad and my partner had the fish and chips. Waiter brought the prawn special instead. I had immediately indicated that it was the wrong order! However when he brought the bill he had charged us for the prawn special and extra fish. We had again asked him to correct the bill to reflect 1 x prawn and fish combo and 1 x fish and chips.

We were then approached by the manager asking us to give him our version of what transpired! I MEAN REALLY!!! I was totally embarrassed at this point as other patrons were over hearing the commotion! We had then asked the waiter to please refer to his order book which confirmed the error was on his part!

Totally unprofessional!!!! Will never go to OB...

We have always experienced.excellent service and food at Ocean Basket, so it is a favourite for our family. My daughter eats the grilled calamari without fail and my wife takes hake - grilled, without batter as she is gluten intolerant (they both are). Today we came to this Ocean Basket, because it was very quiet - maybe 4 other tables had people at it. The waiters were unfriendly but reasonably effective. Spoke the necessary, but not a single smile or a welcome. It took 10 mins to get the bottle of water ordered and then 40 mins for the food to arrive. The food was also quite dissapointing. My daughter couldn't eat the calamari as it was tasteless and my wife's hake was dipped in flour, so she couldn't eat that either. My son, who is in uni here, and cooks bland pasta and veggies for himself everyday, was totally disappointed with the burger he ordered and my fish was also really unappetising. We had 3 people serve us - one of them did smile at us, but the rest was so unwelcoming. We live overseas and had Ocean Basket in Saudi Arabia - that was excellent. This is unacceptable. So sad to experience this. It does seem like some of the reviews are up and others down, just sorry we got here on a bad day. Tue 22nd...
