Tashas was open early enough for us (by 9am), wanted a quick Bantings friendly meal before proceeding to the next appointment. The waiter was friendly, asked him to ensure that were sorted and done before 10am. He assured us that it would be done. Promptly supplied with menus and asked for refreshment orders. Pretty standard, 5 Roses tea for the missus and an Americano for me, hot, black and unadulterated. He delivered just that. The tea pot was enough for 1.5cups, a little shy for her likes. My coffee, perfect. Not a familiar bean, went to enquire at the counter - unbranded foil bag. Ordered 2 x Old School omelettes, thought the price was a bit steep, then again, so is their rent at Brooklyn I am sure. Omelettes were served, a little dry bordering over done, cold fresh diced tomatoes and grated cheese (not melted). I wanted an omelette, not a wrap, should be warm and moist. A bit disappointed. Wife had to rush so she ate hers as is, I had the time and asked the waiter to take mine back to the kitchen and heat it up so-that the centre would be warm and the cheese melted. On the return of the meal, the omelette was very dry but at least the centre was warm and the cheese melted. Bacon was generally over done, bordering crisp. Were I American, would have enjoyed it, but American I am not. On the up side, decor was interesting and a good conversation point, for those not Banting, plenty of sweet delights available, I was sorely tempted. For those wanting their refreshments with a little fortification or substance, they have that as well. Gas heater was on hand to help keep the polar-bears out. In a nutshell, friendly environment and staff, appealing sweets, lots to drink, good coffee, but, avoid the omelette if you enjoy moist and warm centreās, cannot vouch for the balance of the menu. Give them a try, you may find...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was at Tashas with my wife, around 2pm last Sunday. She ordered Savva pasta with a strawberry daiquiri, and I ordered chicken schnitzel. I noticed the waiter was behaving quite odd towards us, a tad cold, but i didn't think anything of it. Until i asked him for take away, and he asked whether we needed it one bag or make it two separate bags. I asked him to clarify what he meant, "Do you mean put the food together in one tray or?" I asked. The response he gave me was so condescending, I had to ask him if it was wrong of me to clarify because that's how he made me feel. Like he was talking to a child, and I know I'm not being paranoid as my wife picked it up too. Anyways, needless to say, my date with my wife was ruined as a result of that because i was quite irritated. I decided to give him a tip nonetheless, but instantly regretted it, because even at the end when he brought the machine for me to pay, he just handed it to me in a rude fashion and handed me my slip. I don't know what i did to deserve that kind of treatment from him, maybe he was having a bad day, or maybe he has some personal vendetta against South Africans. But if he can't separate his personal issues from his service as a professional, then he needs to go work behind the scenes, in the kitchen so no one has to deal with his rotten attitude. Also its not the first time my wife has received this kind of attitude at this restaurant before when she came with a friend. I'm not sure if it was with the same waiter. I even sent an email to the restaurant, so this matter could be addressed privately, but it seems to have fallen on deaf ears as there was no response. Oh well, guess I'll just post it on Google Review for all to see then... It's a shame, because the chicken schnitzel was quite good... and this is one of my favourite restaurants...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTashas is known for its quality and consistently amazing food, which is why we were excited to dine at the Brooklyn branch. Unfortunately, our experience was a letdown.
My partner and I ordered the pesto pasta ā described as creamy with sundried tomatoes and mushrooms. When the dish arrived, there were no sundried tomatoes at all. For any foodie, that's a crucial element that enhances the entire dish.
We sent it back, and when it returned, the sundried tomatoes were simply chopped and tossed in ā not cooked in or blended with the sauce. The result? A lack of flavour and depth. We returned it again.
Shockingly, we were served what felt like the same dish ā this time with overcooked chicken, over-salted sauce, and soggy pasta.
When we raised this with the manager Lewy (spelling), we were met with arrogance. He insisted it was a fresh dish and claimed the previous one had been given to staff ā a claim that didnāt sit right with us at all.
Iāll admit, Iām a fussy eater ā especially when you're paying Tashas prices. But that's exactly why expectations are high. Sadly, this visit didnāt deliver, and left us feeling disappointed...
