My family and I decided we have to try the new Greek spot that opened in northmead. So we made sure to head that way. Unfortunately they do not take bookings but we were lucky enough to get a table just about lunchtime. We started off with some drinks, I was given a confused looked when I had asked for a Savanah light with a shot of tequila, as they didn't have the Savanna Loco nor do they serve cocktails. Tracy the manager/owner told us about their greek wine so we ordered a bottle too. Kouros - interesting taste, wasn't enjoyed by all, once we added some lemonade to it, it became a bit more palatable for some... I was fine with it, with some ice.
They have a good variety of options on their menu especially the starters. We each took something different. Pickled Octopus, Grilled halloumi, Tirokafteri and Spanakopita and Filafals andnplaced our order with Diana. Sadly no skordalia, but the Tirokafteri made up for OMG the flavour it was amazing with the Pita breads, just enough kick of Chilli. Would happily eat a huge bowl of it...
We then placed our orders for mains, as the starters were really good. The place got more busy as it's been quite popular since opening, my only thing is the music needs to be a bit softer to hear each other talk. After almost 50 min of waiting on our mains we inquired as to what's taking so long as by this time we were starving. Only find out our waitress didn't place our order. Nor did she even come near us during this time as we tried to get some one to ask. We then asked for our bill so that we could go elsewhere for food. Tracy, then begged us to stay and promised if she can get our orders out within 15 min would we give them a chance. So we said ok, and Diana was rather apologetic about forgetting when she came back to pir table. True to her word, all our food arrived within 15 min and cooked to perfection. We ordered 2 of the mixed platters (Lamb, Chicken and Bifteki) with salad, tzatziki, chill and pita bread, one of the Grilled skinny Lamb chops and Chips and the Falafel (which wS a bit dry) and another round or Tirokafteri.
Thanks to Tracy for convincing us to stay the food was amazing. The service does however need some work, as the waitresses don't really come check up on their tables.
As a result we ended up ordering a round of GREEK coffee and just 1 Baklava to share just to taste, as we were just chilled enjoying the time there and it slowly started to rain.
My coffee showed me some love... at the end of it, it had a heart shape lol.
So yes, I would recommend giving them a go, the food was really flavorful and cooked properly. Thanks to the Chefs for fantastic...
Read moreIn the first few months of opening the food was good. I'd say 7/8 out of 10. Now, after some time, the food is below average. It's the worst Greek restaurant as far as food goes in Johannesburg.
As far as service it's very clear that they need more waiters because the wait for food is always over an hour. Tonight we had to take our dirty plates to the kitchen after our meal. You can't help but feel sorry for the waiters that are working because they are clearing trying to cover for the owners incompetence of staff management.
My suggestion to the owner is this: instead of opening more locations, rather spend more time at this restaurant, hire more staff and get back to how...
Read moreWent with my family, overall the best thing we ate was the potato wedges and trio yiro with the meats of pork, lamb, chicken. Lovely taziki sauce the best I've had.
The haloumi and spanakopita were perfectly made no complaints. Same with the chicken livers, not bad but nothing to write home about.
The most disappointing thing I tried was the mousakka. The mince was too seasoned, very salty in my opinion. There was also very little aubergine and bechamel. Just felt like a salty square of mince with a few vegetables scattered in it. Not pleasant to eat, especially for the price.
Dessert was pretty great, loved...
