We arrived at 12h50 for our 13h00 booking five different people approached us then proceeded to leave us standing there for ten minutes...eventually we sat down at a table with a 12h00 reserved sign that's when we were told we couldn't sit there we sat there until.they decided to.organise us a table right next to the kitchen..with no chaIrs for the rest of our party still to come...my friends refused to have drinks saying they were waiting for chairs I had a cocktail...The food LOOKED great from what we could see so we waited it out...my colleagues arrived waited for ten minutes for chairs we had asked for earlier.those chaIrs eventually came and when they sat down they had to bend their heads ducking food as waiters came out of the kitchen that is when they asked to leave.those of us that had arrived earlier still had hope and asked to see the manager they sent the kitchen manager and we sent him back telling him we had not eaten and therefore wants the floor manager. When the floor manager came we asked as to why we were badly placed yet the table with the 12h00 reserved sign was open and those people still had not arrived we were told that our table was still occupied by people who had booked for eleven and hadn't left...The people with the empty reserved table had paid my friend then asked as to whether we would be eating for free??At that point I interjected and said we would pay what they had paid on top of our anticipated bill for that reserved table, the manager then left to organise us another table the rest of our party had stood up and waited outside we then asked for the drinks bill so we could leave....I then approached a person who looked senior to all of them and told him how horrible the service was he moved our table outside but my friend's were already to upset and wanted to leave...yet we were still waiting on the bill.

The time we were waiting for the bill was around 2h30 and the reserved table was still empty... The people that had approached us when we arrived were the managers we only realised that when we wanted a manager the waiter tried to assist us and was a very sweet guy they even gave us another waiter but we refused because we did not have a problem with his service....

A person who reserved a table during peak hours loses their reservations if they have not arrived within thirty minutes of their reserved time. The food LOOKED great pity we didn't taste it the ambience was fabulous however the managers need training the waiters I had no qualms about at all....

We eventually went to braamfontein smokehouse which my friend's had called while we were talking to management...We had a few celebrities next to our table but we were served so well you could not ten the difference..I will not be going back to pata...

The food was just as bad as the service. My partner ordered lasagna from the vegetarian section and we were told that there was no lasagna for the night. I waited for about 30minutes before we could enjoy my strawberry mojitos because there were no straws & we had to wait for the waiter to request for some from nex door. We weren't offered any salt & sauces and our waiter was nowhere to be seen after serving the food. No other waiter was around so we waited for a while before we could request for the sauces. The second round of gin for my partner tasted differently from the first round. There was too much lime in it, he couldn't even drink it and they refused to change the drink when we raised that issue. He had to buy another tot of gin only to realize that they had forgotten to put in the gin. I'm honestly disappointed. The only thing that was good was the band that was playing and the fact that it was warm inside...

The live music and atmosphere were great, however, the food was disappointing and bland, I ordered line fish for R200 which was a small piece of fish hardly seasoned with a few pieces of thick chips that was probably cooked in oil that was too high as it was overly brown with a burnt taste. While my husband had a Tbone steak that was overcooked and also lacked seasoning. To compensate for the disappointing main we attempted to order a dessert off the menu, which they did not have must when we finally settled on a Ferrero cake slice... no surprise when it was dry with the most pleasing part being the half Ferrero on the top.... this mediocre slice of cake was a waste of almost R92 ( way overpriced) - I would recommend eating elsewhere and only going here for drinks and the...

Pata Pata in Maboneng is a must-visit for anyone seeking authentic African flavors combined with a vibrant atmosphere. The restaurant's pricing is reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes and the quality of the ingredients used. Many menu items feature nutritious, whole foods, with dishes rich in vegetables, lean proteins, and traditional grains, offering a satisfying yet health-conscious meal option. The menu caters to diverse tastes, with options ranging from hearty stews and grilled meats to lighter salads and vegetarian dishes. If you're looking to enjoy an authentic taste of Africa with nutritional value at a fair price, Pata Pata is an excellent choice. Its welcoming ambiance, live music, and flavorful dishes make it more than just a meal—it's an experience!

Food was mediocre. Service was poor. The young lady who served us stood in the middle of the floor and chastised us by yelling to her colleague and speaking in her language that she was dissatisfied with the tip we gave. Unknowingly, there is a 10% tip policy that is not written or displayed anywhere. Therefore if you are a tourist you are unaware of this policy. Her service was mediocre. She rushed us through the entire order. That being said we still offered the 10% tip despite her rude and unacceptable behavior. I would not recommend anyone to eat here. There are a few other restaurants in the same vicinity where the food is great and they offer service with a smile. Pata Pata is overrated and staff needs customer service training.

Friday night at Pata Pata had a great vibe, thanks to the artsy location and live Jazz music that actually was the star of the evening. It was quite busy and waited a few minutes for a table. I would suggest getting there a little earlier, because as soon as the band sets up people will be less inclined to move after their dinner. The menu has a lot of South African favorites. Our steak was over done and the oxtail was tough but the sauces were great. I have to say that for the price we were let down by the quality in preparation. A glass of wine: R45-55 300g Steak: R140-R160 Steak toppings: R45 Sauces: R35 Dessert: R 40-R50
