Shakers has always been good to me. Sundays are the best as they provide the best experience in terms of music and entertainment (the people are pretty and dance all night long). It is LGBT friendly and we love them for that.
I haven’t been there since they renovated it. As a result I decided to visit it on the 31st. Well it was as fun as before. More spacious with good looking people and great music. The alcohol is just well priced and service is nothing to complain about. Seems like they got more staff to handle the increased traffic.
Now we have to talk about the scamming that happens there. The waiters include their tips on your bill without telling you. If your total costs of beer is R100 they add R10 or more without telling you. If alcohol is R35 and you buy two they make it R80. That’s daylight robbery. They know people don’t pay attention to that since it is busy. They should at least let the patrons know. Some are not gonna be so nice. I’m sure they are well off from the tips they give themselves. The toilets could also use with some cleaning. Maybe have someone who checks them regularly ? They are also small and the cubicles are not well spaced.
Side Note: Keep your phone with you all the time. If possible leave it in the car. They steal phones. Besides that, it’s a lovely place to go party and unwind. Sundays...
Read moreAfter careful consideration, I've decided to give Shakers a dazzling 3.5 stars. I can't do a 3.5 on Google so I've rounded up to 4 stars instead. The students love this place, they get to mingle with the youngins who've just entered the working class. And then there are those who are waaayyyy waaayyyy past "working class debutant" status but still wanna feel like spring chickens... they end up here too.
If you're in your late 20s to early thirties (28- 33) like I am, then I'd suggest you go here mid-month. It's less packed, you can dance and move around with ease and you get top-notch, first class attention from the bar staff.
If you're under 28, then by all means, go at month end. It's a proper turn up, bumper-to-bumper/ chest-to- chest/ omunye-phez-komunye kinda vibe. The music is awesome and it's def...
Read moreIt's a nice place to vibe on a weekend really. But I personally think this tendency of having entrance fee on a Sunday is very ridiculous. I mean the place is too small and can hardly accomodate 150 people without anyone stepping on your toes. And when it's raining, there is not enough shade for everyone even seat. I went there on the 3rd of December with a company of 4 friends and it was so packed to the gate we had to go vibe somewhere else. The place attract enough crowds due to it's popularity so I don't understand why do we have to pay to get inside. I mean surely they killing it in revenue so why be greedy? Especially for a place that has one toilet for guys to use,im not sure about the ladies set up though. Maybe management should also...
