Review: Red Door Coffee Shop
Tucked away like a hidden gem, Red Door Coffee Shop is a cosy little escape that feels more like a warm hug than a café. The décor is a delightful blend of shabby chic and rustic charm — think corrugated iron walls, vintage touches, and the crackling glow of a log fire that makes the whole space feel inviting and intimate. With only about ten tables inside, it’s the perfect spot for a quiet catch-up or a slow solo coffee.
The food is as comforting as the setting. We had the toasted cheese sandwich on sourdough with crispy fries, a creamy chai latte, and a classic Five Roses tea — all for just R140 including tip! Their buttermilk scones are absolutely enormous and look too good to pass up (definitely returning for those). The prices are surprisingly reasonable for the generous portions and the lovely setting.
Service was excellent — the waitress was a sweet, attentive young woman who let us enjoy our time without ever making us feel rushed. There’s also a small boutique gift shop attached, perfect for browsing something unique after your meal.
Parking is a bit tight, but we felt secure thanks to the visible on-site security. All in all, Red Door is a charming little retreat well...
Read moreA quick stop for something to drink and eat brought us here in the rain. We've been wanting to come to Red Door Cafe for quite sometime. Unfortunately for this occasion we didn't eat as the menu was rather limited for what we felt like so we just had drinks, and walked around their fantastically quirky shop with some interesting and unique gifts for birthdays or bridal showers etc.
We had a few waitresses assisting us (hence forgotten their names) but all friendly and helpful with great service, as we didn't make a reservation, so walked around the shop till a table was open as they were quite full. I ordered the Lindt Hot Chocolate, and had to chuckle when it arrived with a Kit Kat and Marshmallow 🤔 slightly confused. Although it tasted good and it was hot. My mom had a Cappuccino and my sister ordered the Cortado I think.
We will be back another time to try the food and cakes/desserts as it looked good when I walked inside. Loved the setup of the place, always enjoy sitting in different...
Read moreService from one waitress in particular was not good. We had to almost argue with her to put two tables together to accommodate our nr of people. Another waiter (male) was far more helpful and he was actually friendly. He made us feel welcome and seated us with a good attitude. We had more than one wrong order come out to our table but had to ask twice to have it removed and replaced. Overall the food was good. Only their croissants came out weird. One was completely collapsed and they still brought it out to be served which I found really strange. When the bill came we were charged for two extra breakfasts. Basically there is a lack of attention to detail. This place has a good reputation in edenvale and I have had very good experiences previously but today I felt that the service provided by a particular waitress and especially her cold attitude can cause damage to this restaurants reputation. Maybe she just had a bad day? I hope so becasue it would be a pity if this popular establishment suffers...
