Your Petit Fours used to be one of the best things on this planet. But now whoever is making them is making the icing on the outside too thick and also has a heavy hand with the orange food colouring. Please use more water for the outside icing and apply a thinner layer of it... You are ruining them by doing this. The person applying the icing lacks training. They have been the same all these years and now they are only half as good due to the icing problem... It's almost like a clay. I bought them twice now the past month and they were the same both times, I was sorry I bought them because they are not as good as they used to be. 🙄

Also another complaint. Please keep your mini sausage rolls warm. You scoop them up on that dozen scoop and then they get cold while waiting for the next customer. You gave me ice cold sausage rolls this morning. I wanted to sneak one in the car and I almost spat it out because a cold sausage roll isn't enjoyable at all. Pies are meant to be warm. You have an oven right there in the display unit...

Oh and 2 weeks ago I bought a croquette and found a massive piece of fat in it. A 2cm piece of fat. How do you even miss that? It was very nauseating.

It will be a while before I buy from you again because you have disappointed me twice in a row now, so your standards...

I went to this bakery because for the impressive reviews but I had a awful experience. The prices are affordable I was surprised. I bought three muffins which totaled to R22, that's not even price of 1 muffin at the big retailers. Taste: they were stale, felt like I was eating the previous day's muffins, extremely disappointed considering the amount of recommendations for this place. Secondly the Asian lady (apologies if that is politically incorrect) that works at the pay point is not the friendliest (Rude), being my first time there I didn't know that there's is a minimum spend of R50 if you want to pay using your card, she went on a rant about it, telling me that we all claim it's our first time buying there when we want to transact with out cards for less than their minimum amount, I offered to look for something to add to my purchase she didn't want to hear it told me that I'm supposed to know because they've been in business for 56 years, she eventually processed the transaction and threw the point of sale receipt at me after I tapped. The rest of the staff were great and friendly no complaints. Just the taste muffins and the pay point lady that will make me not to ever go back to this bakery. Not everyone goes around with...

I like going to this place once in a while. But the place has new management in and since then the food needs to be refreshed so the food can be improved to the same taste as I know the flavour as. Still a nice place to sit out on thee deck but would like them to also get WiFi for the customer to use when we need to communicate to business partners this could possibly increase a little bit more income as I'm not sure if there's flavoured tea or speciality brands of fresh coffee available. But the place still is the same as used to be clean and friendly environment good for weekend lunches and downstairs has a good Dutch bakery with lots of goodies to try. Parking is available and there is no kids unit. Just to mention I didn't see a loo or waiste closet facility for this spot yet but I'm sure there's a spot available if you ask the staff rendering there duty on the premises. The windmill still doesn't move as they taking the rotation system out the roof cap of the mill but there should be a new menu with most of the food available from the old menu. Let's hope they can revive the recipes and improve the flavour of the meals and I have seen the prices are correct and cam shit...

I have been to this place many times. It is a great and unusual restaurant built to match the Dutch lifestyle and culture. During my last visit I sadly noticed lack of maintenance, lack of supervision to keep the place clean and the service was unfortunately slow. It is such a beautiful place and a pity to see the lack of good management. I will be back in couple of weeks and hopefully experience a few positive chances. I wish the new management to be successful and fix what can be fixed. The downstairs shop offers some great Easter treats and has a small variety of European sweets and treats. Because the restaurant is in the upper floor there is no access to the restaurant for people in a wheelchair. The shop is on the ground floor and above is the restaurant.

With its trademark windmill, now painted green, De Backery is a landmark in Edenvale since many can remember (1963) and a haven of quality baked goods. When I am in the area, I always try to drop in. De Backery specializes OBVIOUSLY in Dutch treats....in the area and peckish, ask for a croquette on a roll with Mustard (jummy)(R21.50) and take home some biscuits as well : From Bokkepootjes to Speculaas to Bitterkoekje, they are all there...AND don't forget the Ventco drop en Schoolkrijt sweets packets. Sit upstairs in de oude molen and enjoy a typical Dutch meal...Uitsmyter and Pancakes.
