Holy Guacamole... Me pica el bagre
Next to Beerhouse, Stones, RocoMamas, and many more, Salsa Mexican Grill definitely does stand out in this lively area in Jozi.
As with any Mexican restaurant, we started out with some frozen margaritas, because there is no better way to start the evening. We will say that their selection of tequilas are very broad and interesting. We had a litchi tequila with pineapple and a chilli tequila with an orange slice, both were actually quite good, but damn the chilli one does pack a punch.
The food was quite a toss-up for us. Starting with the Nachos and Jalapeno poppers, they were amazing, being nice and spicy and oh so cheesy, but the tacos and burrito were a bit of a letdown, being a bit over salted and also just plain. Luckily the desserts hit it out of the park, with the Churros and Strawberries & Dreams Taco. They might not give a lot of detail but they dealt a tonne of flavour.
Oh my oh my the service was grand. The chef introduced himself and wished us a happy evening by giving us tequila shots on the house. After that our waiter took amazing care of us, making sure we always had something to drink and never having us wait for her. Absolute top notch work.
Atmosphere was quite interesting. Nice environment and colourful with great decorations and a good vibe with the party music. The problem we had was that the music from Beerhouse next door was so loud we could barely hear each other, not to mention the music inside Salsa. This was so odd, having a problem with the music next door in a restaurant.

Read moreA night never to be forgotten. The finalists to be revealed in the #SavannaSalsican Competition. What a fiesta, they always make any event festive. Our Chilli Pineapple Margaritas were delicious as always washed down with our favourite Spicy Nachos which are always great and a huge portion to share. My Fish Tacos were quite a big portion and it needed some salt and lemon juice to bring out the flavours. Only disappointment was the pasta the Fideo Seco - it was just full of tomato and skinny gluten free pasta. It needs something else in it to make it more exciting - some veggies etc and spice. Also my friends Fajita plate, her steak was overcooked and the corn tasted frozen.
We unfortunately didn't make it to dessert as we had to break for some Pinatas Bashing to reveal the winner and thereafter immediately started celebrating. I am happy to say I WON.. woohoo Mexico here i come... I will continue the party once I am over there.
Thank you Salsa Mexican Grill for an amazing evening. It's definitely one for the memory...
Read moreHubby and I decided to have a late lunch at Salsa Design Quarter yesterday. Our server took our drinks order but didnt return to take our food order. We managed to flag him down 15 minutes later when he took hubby's order but didnt bother to take mine. We had to flag down another server who noted both orders. By now our drinks arrived and mine had a fruit fly floating on top so I requested a replacement. It arrived without a straw. At this point, I asked to speak to the manager who didnt pitch after 10 minutes so we left. The server found us on our way back to our car so I decided to go back and give the manager a chance to explain. His attempt at an apology wasnt even sincere. I really dont understand this lacking service since the restaurant was not 50% full. Salsa used to be one of my favorite restaurants but now that the fantastic branch in Midrand has closed down and the Design Quarter branch has such poor service,...
