Spiceburg — Restaurant in Gauteng

Update 18/06: Food is excellent (as always). Came here on Saturday morning, before Father’s Day, so it was empty, and that is when you get the best service. For cuisine, this is my fav restaurant in Joburg. But you really only get good service when they are not busy.

8/05: Really like this place, been many times before with a good experience. But it is really appalling that on Mother’s Day they seem understaffed and underprepared to handle being busy - usually it’s quiet here. No management about either. We had to wait a while to be seated because the staff would not tell some people ordering takeaway that were seated at a table to rather move to the bar. Every staff member I questioned just fobbed me off and then the waiter wanted to give the table promised to us to other patrons. When we were finally seated the table had a dirty tablecloth that they were unwilling to change. Eventually just left without ordering - not that there was anyone to take our order....

At first I had one of those rare bad impressions of spiceburg, I was in hospital and ordered some food to be delivered to me which turned out not to be up to standard however the very next day after a complaint the owners came to the hospital to visit me, apologize & see what they could do to make it up to me they are going to refund my money and they are even hand delivering the pani puri that I have been craving for and a Bombay crush on the house. These things happen once in a while when you are in the restaurant business however the Difference is that the owner made the effort to correct the mistake and that is why I will be going to their restaurant with my family to sample their food in person when I am discharged from hospital... Their Customer Service is Incomparable to anywhere in the world that I have traveled...Good...

My Ammachy (grandmother) used to absolutely love Spiceburg and used to love to go there in 2013/2014 when she stayed with us, making it very sentimental too! We love ordering from there and do so regularly but had to specifically come and give a great review after I was helped today in acquiring some sambar😂 made dosa maavu and I really wanted Spiceburg’s sambar which is arguably one of the best I’ve had. Unfortunately sambar alone wasn’t on the menu on Uber eats (understandably) and so they allowed me to order sparkling water (as it was a similar price to just sambar) and then leave a note for it to be replaced by the sambar! 10/10 service from Mandla as he could have easily said it was not possible but went above and beyond 💗💗 love love love...
