The Artisan Restaurant & Cocktail Bar — Restaurant in Gauteng

My partner and I came here to enjoy an afternoon of drinking and good food from this place that comes highly rated. The drinks came with grandiose presentation but what began as a wonderful afternoon from a beautiful restaurant with great service quickly turned sour.

I have personally chosen to maintain a vegetarian diet. While I do not expect people to go above and beyond to accommodate my diet, I do hope that the simple things I ask for (that are promised on a set menu) will be provided to me as promised. I ordered the vegetable skewers on the tapas menu (I may not be recalling it by its correct name but the point is, vegetables on a stick). The kitchen took it upon themselves to place my food on the same plate as my partner who does not share my diet. I guess I would have been able to go along with that if the amount of vegetables given to me were more than just the amount that could fit on the palm of my hand.

Not only did they do this but they did not include two other vegetables and the ‘marinade’ they promised along with the dish. I obviously relayed this to the waiter and the manager. I refused to pay for my meal. (This is just a warning to other people who maintain ‘special’ diets).

I guess I’m leaving this review because a wonderful afternoon was ruined. I lost my appetite because of something so simple. If they had just given me what I was promised I wouldn’t have taken my time to write this review. Call me bitter or overactive. The bottom line is they promised something and didn’t deliver. We go there on mondays to play Mah Jong The staff are warm and very hospitable The food is of a very high calibre and we personally would recomend the Artisan for.anyone who wants a good tasty meal and to chill out a while

Don't look in the kitchen! I used to love coming to this place. Took friends visiting from overseas for cocktails and tapas yesterday, thought what could go wrong, seeing as they're a "restaurant and cocktail bar". Our bloody mary's were served in dirty little milkshake glasses, no Tabasco, celery, or even fresh lemon - what's worse is you charge over R60 for this. Ordered the halloumi salad, R75 mind you, for fridge cold halloumi "bits", dry onions, and clearly soggy cucumber and lettuce. The cherry tomatoes were the only fresh item on the plate. Friends ordered your nachos, full portion, R95 - old chips dotted with cheese and tomato? No sour cream, and a spoonful of old guacamole on the side.
