11.10.2020 We finally got to try Galata Bakery in Greenside. Decided to go for breakfast hoping they would have the adana kebabs on the go that day. Sadly we got their a bit too early and their lunch menu is only offered from 11am onwards. A little disappointed as their breakfast menu is very limited and is not the same as on their website. It's completely different.
They do have an array of cakes, pastries and bagels on offer etc but I was after the meat. 😁
So we ordered the 2 x Menemen 1 with the sausage and 1 without (Tomato, Eggs, Mozzarella, green pepper, with Turkish Tea and Bread). We all ordered drinks separately, so didn't get the Turkish tea. 1 x Turkish Breakfast (Tomato, Mushrooms, Eggs, Baked Beans, 1 x Chop, Sausage (Sucuk) and bread) also supposed to come with Turkish tea but didn't this is not even listed on the website. 1 x eggs with bread and then 1 x kebab which came with yogurt and croutons, also not on the website. Then we ordered 2 x Apple Tea and coffee.
The food was ok, lacking the spice I am used to. Luckily to end off our meal we asked our waiter Prince if they are doing Kunefe considering it's still early and he said yes, so that made our day. We just ordered 1 portion to try. OMG it was sooo good it was just as good as the ones we've had in Turkey last year.
I didn't eat it with the ice cream but it was just perfect. So that restored our morning. I definitely need to go back for the lunch menu, I just hope they can update their website so that it can match what is being served as it's quite annoying that's the breakfast menu is completely different to what is offered in greenside, or they need to say that each branch serves different meals for each time of...
Read moreDined in at Galata Bakery & Coffee a few weeks ago and had a fantastic experience!
We had reserved a table beforehand and were seated promptly upon arrival. Our waiter took our order shortly after and the food arrived fresh and steaming hot, although there was a bit of a wait as everything is prepared fresh. This isn't fast food, so be prepared to relax and savour the experience!
My party of three shared a mixed grill platter for two, which included Adana kebap, marinated chicken and beef cubes, kofte, lamb and chicken chops, served with pide bread and a variety of six delicious mezes. The portions were incredibly generous - more than enough for three people ! Everything was cooked perfectly and the dish was flavourful. We ended our meal with a delicious and strong Turkish coffee, served in a traditional cup and with style!
The mixed grill platter was priced on the higher side compared to other Turkish eateries I have dined at. However, considering the quality of the ingredients, the generous portion size, and the inclusion of the mezes, I would say it offered value for money.
The restaurant has a lively and bustling atmosphere, perfect for a fun night out with friends or family. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, but the outdoor area allows smoking, so keep that in mind when choosing where to sit.
Overall, Galata Bakery & Coffee offers a delicious and authentic Turkish dining experience. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a fun and flavourful meal in Greenside, especially if you're sharing...
Read moreWent there morning of 26th Dec, and I am not impresses at all.
First, lack of prober Covid-19 measures, and the staff lady whom served my take-away wasn't placing her facemask on her face (just hanging on her chin).
Second, the show-glass for Bakalawa wasn't sealed with few flies inside?
Third, I think the Bakalawa were all over-priced. Don't tell me it's a quality, a hand-made, special ingredient because something of same quality (even better) was way cheaper here in Joburg.
Finally, when they packed my order, they simply piled all the Bakalawa in a cheap plastic container, something a genuine Turkish bakery will never do. The Bakalawa tasted 'average' for it's price. Anyone been to Turkey can tell how cheap this will taste if you consider the price of it??
Overall, first and last time there. I didn't taste or ordered any food to be honest so I can't comment, but based on the first visit, the only good things about this place (in my opinion) were the location and the outdoor (terrace) seating that look refreshing.
I rather prefer the one at Nizamiye mosque (Midrand) as it was much family- and child-friendly, not to mention the great location.
Hope the owner can take these comment as a constructive feedback and improve his Covid-19...
