Upon taking numerous recommendations from friends about this place and of course for the love of pasta, my family and I decided to have Mother's Day lunch here. Upon arrival there was no host or waiter to greet and welcome us until a few minutes later a lady came by and took us to our table which was at the back of the restaurant outside on the balcony next to the bar. We were seated and again after a few minutes menus were handed out and the waiter introduced himself and said he would come back for our drink orders and starters. He came back after about 10 minutes took our drinks and before we could tell him our starters he left again. We recieved our drinks about 15 mins later and starters about 30 minutes after we placed the order. We understood the restaurant was busy but the service was pathetic, our waiter could be seen at all the his other tables except ours. We finally orders our mains which took more than 45 minutes to be served and in that waiting period we were rudely shouted at by the table infront of us because my niece was laughing and calling out for us whilst running around at the corner of the balcony where no one was seated (my niece is 2 years) and upon serving our mains our waiter didn't even have the decency to come check if everything was okay with our meals. We had completely lost our appetite after this as the restaurant was so noisy but we were the ones shouted at which at this point it strongly came across as racism because we were the only Indians dinning in the restaurant. If you had to put the service we recieved together with the shouting we felt completely out of place because we were the only Indians. My sister and brother inlaw then took my niece outside because of the shouting we recieved. I mean how do you scold a 2 year old for laughing and calling us???? Most of us wasted our food and just sat at the table blankly, we then wanted to reorder drinks and again our waiter can be seen at other tables but still hasn't even come to our table since we received our meals. I then yelled for him and asked him to bring drinks and again this was delayed over 10 mins and I could see that the bar wasn't even busy yet again our waiter can be seen at other tables around us.
I then asked for the bill and then waiter cleared our table and we informed him about the shouting we received and expressed our disappointment that the manager or anyone working there allowed them to behave in that manner. He apologized and said they were regulars at the restaurant but he will ask the manager to come through and speak to us. Again we waited for about 10 mins and eventually woke up and left however my parents were still there, the manager simply came to apologize and that was it.
I've been in the hospitality industry for the past 10 years and never have I ever experienced this before, from the actual service and etiquette of the service staff to being shouted at by fellow patrons in the restaurant I felt disgusted because this isn't the kind of behavior that is acceptable in the Hospitality Industry or as a HUMAN BEING!!! IT WAS DEFINITELY A HORRIBLE 3 HOUR LUNCH!
THIS IS DEFINITELY A PLACE THAT I WILL NEVER VISIT AGAIN BECAUSE NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO TREAT OTHERS DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE OF THEIR SKIN COLOR AND THE FACT THAT THE RESTAURANT PAID NO ACTUAL ATTENTION...
Read moreI would give them a zero rating had I had the option. My family and I had dinner at the restaurant on Thursday night. We ordered our dishes and kept a menu for later if we decided to have dessert. We were quite full after our meals and asked for the bill. On receiving the bill we noticed that the price on the menu we had did not reflect the prices on the the bill. We called our waitress and she said that it was a menu from a month back and that the prices have changed. But we all know that the prices you see is what you pay for something at any store/ restaurant. she took the menu to her manager who then approached us stating that the price on the menu was the same as the bill. This was not the same menu we had given her. The manager insisted that the menu was the same as the one we had given the waitress. He would not let us speak to the waitress nor would he give us the opportunity to prove we were not lying. Eventually after arguing back and forth the person running the kitchen came out and told him to sort out the issue as the people seated at the restaurant were watching. She too could have had a better attitude as we are customers too and deserve respect. He then gave us the discount, we paid and left. It was not about the few Rands discount we were supposed to receive but about the fact that we were treated as liars. The situation could have been handled better if he had just apologised to us and explained that the menu was mistakenly put out. We would've paid full price had he treated us in a better way. Will not be...
Read moreI have always looked forward to my visits to Mama Luciano's and so for my birthday this year, Mama Luciano's was my go to restaurant. Sunday was particularly hot but the food was worth the inconvenience. However, to say the kitchen was probably cooler than the restaurant was probably not far from the truth! It was unbearable. We ordered and were served our drinks but the wrong drink was served to one of my guests, who graciously accepted it as I suspect she was overheating by that time. The food was ordered but again it was not up to the standard we had come to expect of Mama's. My five meatballs were dry and totally lacking in flavour. Really rather disappointing my expectations. During the meal no one stopped by to ask if we needed anything more to drink or enquire if we were enjoying our meal. Something we had come to expect from the usually friendly staff. When I asked for the bill it came promptly enough but then I had to leave my seat to find my waiter to bring the card machine. I was saddened by what appeared to be falling standards. I hope that this was merely an anomaly and is not indicative of the future treatment diners can expect. To describe my visit succinctly would be to say the staff were...
