Really bad experience at Umhlanga Sands Mugg and Bean. Waitress Tandeka firstly forgot to come and take my order, when I did call her the 2nd time, she then said to us that we must pay cash bcos during load shedding the portable card machines don't work yet I saw others using the machine. When she brought my order, she forgot the tea, I had to remind her, she eventually brought it as we were about to finish our meal. She spilled my tea whilst placing it on the table. While cleaning up the spill, she pushed a menu card into my meal. My children joined us a few minutes later so they ordered through another waitress, Tandeka then had a verbal exchange of words in our presence stating that the other waitress could take the order but that order must be given to her to process. Tandeka kept walking far away from the place where all the other patrons were seated, I then concluded that she was going down to the promenade to drink alcohol bcos she reeked of alcohol. We hadn't completed our meals fully when she insisted that I come into Mugg and Bean to swipe my card so I went along. Drama doesn't end, instead of swiping R270, she swipes R2700, I quickly brought it to her attention, she then said, I know I made a mistake, she then corrected the mistake. At first she didn't give me a copy of my bill, only when I requested for it, then she did. She is really a health hazard serving people meals, she is a darn...

Right where do we begin? First can sort of understand that week 51,busy, time of year but if you have would estimate 100+ seater restaurant, would assume you would be able to provide staff to accommodate and provide staff to service customers. We noticed that as customer came in to be seated the tables from the last customers were not cleaned up, and ready for next customers, was totally shocked actually, I would think if you had ‘Runners, that had a sole purpose of cleaning up the tables as soon as the customer is paid and left, ready for next customer. We estimated watching the set up, would save 5/7 minutes, per table, making the process of next customer a cleaner process, would also suggest that the runners have a mobile trolly with space under side for condiments, so once table cleared can be set, quite simple actually , but think will make more stream lines for management and customer, also better manager visual presents to make sure place and table setting together with floors swept and ready for next!! As an extra plus once customer sat and ready for order, take drinks orders, and send runners with drinks, ready for waiter to take orders...

For the past 2 days we have been buying drinks after our morning walk. You wait 20 min for service at the Mugg and Bean on the move. Today what would have been our 3rd day we waited for a long time at the service desk. No one in sight. After a while a waiter told us we should order at their sit down area. It would have been nice if they had a sign or the other 5 waiter who walked passed could have told us. We wanted to order like the other two mornings a chino muggachino. This morning the waiter said they don't have any. We asked for any thing else cold with coffee and she said sorry they don't have, as she said that one of the waiters walked passed with some iced drinks and she said the only thing they have for us was the pineapple and cucumber slush not what the other waiter walked with. It was such a shame because we love Mugg & Bean and this one has an amazing location. We walked out and supported a local business just a few meters away. So next time before we support this Mugg & Bean we will rather support a local business that needs the customers more that...

Just after 8am my wife and I ordered their breakfast specials, which are good value for money. The waitress took our order promptly but we were disappointed by the long wait, about 30 minutes, for our breakfasts to be served. My “classic” breakfast was fine but my wife’s “On the go” breakfast was cold, even the toast. The restaurant was fairly empty with patrons at only about 5 tables and the waitress was attentive so it seems to me that the problem lies with their kitchen staff. The manager made contact a few days later and offered my wife and I a complimentary breakfast which we accepted. He took our order himself and needless to say our breakfasts and the service was excellent so I have modified my original 3 star review to 5 stars.

A real let down in terms of service and food quality. I ordered a breakfast bagel, it comes without the tomato chutney (a key ingredient for the taste). I am then told they do not have the chutney. On wanting to speak to the manager, I am brought “tomato chutney” which is a tomato and onion mix. So the manager Charley also has no clue what is going on in the restaurant. This is the 3rd slow service in one week. I am sure the franchise doesn’t really care as they as constantly busy being in the Sands. But it can really do with an upgrade on the management of the restaurant.

Disgusting! They sell seafood paella, under the seafood section... and it has pork!!!!! Misleading and disturbing. We will never support them again. Terrible. Why mislead people????? Response to reply: if you are not mugg and bean then how do you know what seafood paella has, I attach a google search for your info. And if it has chorizo, why is it under the seafood section? I've been making paella since I was a teen, never mixed meat NB: the waiter and staff are great, I'm just really upset about the menu and pork in seafood
