I don’t believe in judging a restaurant after only one meal/experience as it may as well have been an isolated event (everyone has their bad days, right?).
So I decided to have breakfast at the Tides Beach Bar and Restaurant today and my experience was just as disappointing as my first experience.
Let’s start with the condiments placed on your table: don’t be fooled by the “All Gold” tomato sauce bottle on your table. The contents of that bottle were long finished and have been replaced by some cheap brand of tomato sauce. Note to the restaurant owner: You are not obligated to serve All Gold tomato sauce, or any brand of tomato sauce for that matter. Please just don’t replace the contents of a branded container with something completely different. It is misleading.
Now let’s get to the meal: I ordered a “Uitsmijter”, which is an open sourdough sandwich, with gypsy ham, cheese and three fried eggs served with a small portion of fries. The bread: first off, the “sourdough” bread was either not sourdough at all or it was stale sourdough. Either way, the bread did not taste fresh at all. Secondly, my expectation was that the slice of bread would have been toasted, my mistake to make assumptions, as it was not stated on the menu. However, I would have expected the waiter to at least ask whether or not I prefer my bread to be toasted. The fries: since they were skinny fries, you’d expect them to be crispy, right? Wrong! The fries were not crispy at all and most of them were already cold when my plate arrived.
It is fair to say that I will not be...
Read moreOver the long weekend, we as a group of 7 people went for lunch. After placing our order, it took 1 hour and 20 mins for the food to arrive. We ordered 3 burgers, a salad a chicken schnitzel and a butter chicken pizza. When the waiter brought the food, one burger was missing, where we got the response that the patties & buns are finished. We will need to wait another 20 mins for the one burger. We thus cancelled that burger.
The remaining burgers’ buns were hard as rock and the garnish was old and wilted. We sent the burger back, since, honestly, it was disgusting to look at. Being as there were no buns or patties, we cancelled that burger instead of ordering something else.
The pizza had no flavor, was tough, and the bottom was burnt pitch black. Very unpleasant. Thank goodness for the balsamic vinegar that was on the table.
The schnitzel had very little sauce that had no taste. The salad that came with the chicken, was also old and wilted.
Overall it was a very unpleasant experience and will not be returning...
Read moreEvery negative review posted is valid. We made a mistake choosing this establishment above the C Shack which was popular. There were hardly people in the restaurant which is evidently proven why. There was a lady that sat at a randomn table influencing us to eat at the Tides rather than next door which was not by accident, must have been a tactic. A table of about 8 people also complained & moved to the other restaurant. From time to time a restaurant runs out of ingredients however this seems to be a trend reading the other reviews. The owner is friendly & hospitable however service is slow & the food is not up to standard, I observed the chicken schnitzel and fish & chips overcooked. The calamari starter was R90 which was literally 5 strips. The muscles were undercooked & sauce very lumpy. We were disappointed as there were plenty of choices to eat, however due to the desperation of the waiters canvassing for us to sit down & the convincing lady we opted...
