We've stayed in Randburg since 1999. Never knew there's a Spur near the Trinity Village, off Beyers Naude Drive. Heard good and not-so-good things about the Spur.
This afternoon we decided to visit the Lone Wolf Spur. From the outside, it's impressive. Looks like someone's home. Lovely parking area with huge trees, 3 chickens welcomed us ... next to the parking is an open seating area for the smokers. (but a bit noisy when generator is running.)
Inside huge seating areas - through the restaurant to the back - a thatched roof area - lovely lamps and plants hanging from the ceiling - lots of seats!!! Right next to the kids' play area. Even an old Falcon 10 airplane (used to be the fastest business aircraft) in pristine condition. Inside empty except for foam mattresses.
Florence our waitress was excellent. On the table was an advert for candy straws ... I ordered a still water and a strawberry candy straw. Straw is rock hard, but as you keep it in your drink, it softens gradually and every sip is the flavor you chose. Hein's beer was cold.
Hein ordered the normal Beef burger with pepper sauce, onion rings and chips. I ordered the Rib Burger with vegetables (creamed spinach and butternut). OH MY - everything was delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Have you ever ordered a rib burger in the Spur? You actually get 2 rib 'patties' - so yum.)
The vegetables were outstanding. Our burgers had slices of cheese on top and as usual, the onion rings - yumyum!!! The manageress stopped by and said hello ....
The back area where we sat, has an open roof - so you can see the sky.
Whole feel of this Spur is spacious, vibey and 'part of nature'. Excellent service, outstanding food ........
Read moreBreakfast with friends at lone wolf spur this morning... ordered 2 cappuccino's to start... we got 2 black coffees. Had to send it back. Apparently there was no milk in the machine.....really! Bad start if you were looking forward to your 1st cappuccino of the day. The other guest ordered rooibos tea asked for the teabag on the side...you guessed it brewing in some rather cold 'boiling' water. The waitress asked if they should make fresh cappuccinos ..hand over face. No option to change the wrong tea order... breakfasts delivered... wheres the toast...🙄.. toast eventually arrives... that bread was maybe 'toasted' for 5 seconds....bit of a rant I know, but when you go out you want to sit down get what you ordered and paid for, enjoy the meal and chat with your friends. Meals done... normally I would think the dishes get cleared, waitress asks if there is anything else, she was no where to be seen during our meal to ask if everything was ok , if we needed to. order a coffee etc. ... did not happen. My wife and I agreed we will not go back to that spur or any other for that matter. I'll be making my breakfasts at home. Maybe the training given the the waitress was none existing, I dont know. Is this the general state of service in restaurants?? I don't eat out much, if at all anymore. Dont let me get started on...
Read moreGrowing up, Spur was our Friday night tradition. It meant family time, it meant rib-covered faces, it meant making the best of friends with kids on the playground, and a sad goodbye at the end of the night when Mom called for home time. The Spur tradition started to fade away as we got older, and with that, I felt that Spur's magic was slowly lost over the years as the brand modernised. BUT! Last night, my partner and I were craving ribs, and I suddenly thought, let's give Lonewolf Spur a bash again. From the moment we walked in, Shirley made us feel so welcome with her bubbly personality and contagious smile. As our ribs arrived, we noticed that the waiters had gathered around a table with a drum, singing the ORIGINAL Spur birthday song!!! As I sat there, ribbed covered face and all, so many happy memories of my childhood came flooding back. Nostalgia of note! The food was absolutely incredible, some of the best I've had at a restaurant for a long time. THIS is the Spur I know and love, and can't wait for my next visit. THANK YOU Lonewolf Spur, I got to relive so many special memories, and I felt that Spur...
