I visited Ocean Basket Clearwater yesterday(10 December 2024) with my family. Our experience was horrible, to say the least. It was late afternoon, and the restaurant was quiet. Firstly, the waiter Walter was EXTREMELY slow and showed no gratitude for his tip at the end of our visit, he didn't even come back to our table to check on us after he received his payment. Considering the restaurant was quiet, the bathrooms were absolutely appalling, dirty, and very smelly. The restaurant had no draught beer in stock for my husband. The starters were fair but not great. Our main courses of 2 x platters for one were horrible. Everything on the plate was dry and mostly overcooked. I mentioned this to the manager, of which he offered part solution in replacing some of the items. What annoyed me most was the sad excuses for the poor quality of food, in his words " maybe it was left too long on the warmer, we change the oil everyday(the chips tasted like it was done the day before and looked and tasted like old oil)the rice was so dry it was stuck to the platter. The squid heads and prawns were so overdone and hard. For the amount of money charged for these meals, you'd expect them to be better prepared.
Thankfully, our kids' meals were better. However, the chips were of the same poor quality. As a family, we have visited Ocean Basket a few times and have enjoyed our experiences. However, after yesterday, we are completely put off. We will never visit the Ocean Basket at Clearwater again, and we probably won't visit any Ocean Basket again in the near future. Not what we expected from a quality restaurant brand.
We left very disappointed considering this was a planned outing to spoil our kids a bit for achieving excellent results after a long school year.

Read moreAppalled, I say, appalled! From the door, two waitrons awaiting clientele butno escorts, they just pointed into general vicinity of the inside seating area. OK, i think to myself, I don't need someone to pull my chair out... Another waitron, Jose, according to the pay slip, comes to our table. He mumbles the whole time, so much so that my friend had to ask 3 times what he was asking her. I finally tell her he's asking "chips, rice or half of each". We ordered a "platter for 1", she asks for chips, I requested rice... The food arrives... The experience darkens further... The rice is so undercooked that it might as well have been pure out the tasric packet onto my plate and food colouring poured over it, and barely seasoned. My friend's chips were OK I suppose, well can't really mess up chips, right? My portion of fish looks like a cat had a few bites out of it, it's closer to biltong than actually fish it's so dry and grilled? I'm sure I said grilled.... The squid heads are dry and taste a week old. They calamari has taste, but its so rubbery that I could slide them on a toy car and go drag racing, once the cold sauce wears off... The only decent thing was the mussels/oysters, I couldn't really tell because there was so much sauce on the plate!
All in all, an abysmal turnout for any quality or care in the world. I walked away before the till slip was reprinted because there was no paper in the card machine (ingenico). Thank you, oh vaunted ocean's basket in vlearwater for helping me to appreciate that ocean's basket is no longer the place to go for anything seafood related, let alone for service that's a cut...

We thought we were going out for an amazing brunch however it turned out to be one of the most poorest service I ever had firstly the waiter couldn't properly speak English and did not have a book to write down the orders but on an old slip we were given chipped glasses and our food orders were completely wrong and that was not all even the drinks it was ordered was sent back three times the manager was the worst except of apologizing once and getting the order corrected he continuously apologizing and blaming other's.
The staff most of the times on the cellphone showing it others whatever it might be I honestly must say the food was excellent afterwards we had dessert and yet again we were shocked as the chocolate sauce for the ice creams were sour we were at the time so fed up and didn't even complain and decided to pay the bill and leave thank you for the one drink on the house though but I suggest it management gets everything sorted a sub or you will losing more clients as I will not be coming back at all.
I have posted a photo with the time and date of the slip as I noticed there was CCTV and management can gladly go and review the footage.
I've only given a 2 out of five star rating only for the food and nothing more and I suggest that management steps in as soon as possible as I've mentioned above will be losing more clients if...
