I recently had the pleasure of dining at Pearly's in Langebaan, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience that left my taste buds dancing with delight. From start to finish, Pearly's delivered an exceptional culinary journey that showcased their dedication to flavor, freshness, and culinary expertise.
To kick off our meal, we indulged in the West Coast Mussels and Chicken livers starters. The mussels were a true revelation – plump and succulent, exquisitely prepared with flavors that transported us to the nearby shores. The chicken liver, rich and delectable, was a true testament to the chef's skill, with every bite bursting with savory goodness.
For our main course, we ventured into a world of aromatic delights. The Thai fish curry with rice was a harmonious blend of spices and freshness, each spoonful an adventure for the senses. Equally impressive was the Butter chicken, accompanied by a surprise – Paratha. While unexpected, the Paratha was a delightful twist that added an extra layer of texture to the meal, and its taste was simply divine.
What truly stood out about Pearly's was not just the remarkable quality of the dishes but also the unexpected pleasure of finding such culinary excellence in the heart of Langebaan. The dishes were not only bursting with flavors but were also made with the freshest ingredients, a clear reflection of the chef's commitment to crafting each plate with care and passion.
As someone who values halaal cuisine, I was delighted to discover that Pearly's offers halaal meat options. However, it's worth noting that the restaurant may not fully meet the needs of those seeking a strictly halaal-friendly environment. For those in search of a halaal gem in Langebaan, Pearly's undoubtedly deserves a visit.
Impressed by our first experience, we returned for breakfast the following day, eager to explore more of Pearly's offerings. The Banting Benedict stole the show, a true delight for anyone seeking a flavorful and fulfilling morning meal. It was evident that Pearly's commitment to excellence extended to their breakfast menu as well.
I must also commend our waiter, Adrian, for his exceptional service and insightful recommendations. His attentive and friendly demeanor enhanced our dining experience, making it even more memorable.
In conclusion, Pearly's in Langebaan is a hidden culinary treasure that should not be missed. With a menu that boasts exquisite flavors, surprising twists, and a commitment to quality, it has secured a spot on my list of top dining destinations. Whether you're a local or a visitor to Langebaan, Pearly's is a must-visit for an exceptional dining adventure that will tantalize your taste buds and leave you...
Read morePearly's Restaurant is on the Langebaan waterfront, +/- 2 hours from Cape Town, along one of the best-maintained roads in the Cape. It has a pub, an internal eating area, and tables on the verandah. The verandah is covered with a canvass tarpaulin, which I hope they retract after sunset.
It's hot on the West Coast - today it was 35°C, which is not unusual there, but under that canvass the temperature must have risen to at least 45°C. We found relief under the roof of the building itself, however, where the temp must have dropped to the low 30's.
The food. There's a small variety of meat choices, but why the hell would you travel all that way up the West Coast for a steak, when the best fish for many hour's driving is taken out of the water right there? So we had the humble grilled fish (Hake) and chips (real potato chips, not reconstituted mash). The portions were generous and the food was delicious.
This place is popular and if you get there after 12.30 you're going to have to wait for a table ... But the wait wasn't too long and the table was clean.
Clearly our waiter was taking strain: service was slow. First came the plates of food, sans cutlery. Then came the cutlery, sans serviettes. When the serviettes came, they were those very thin single-ply half-A4 sheets of paper. Then came the drinks (!?!) We got no sealed towelletes to clean our hands at the end of the meal. Fortunately I carry my own waterless hand-cleaner. There's no play equipment for children so they amuse themselves by trying to murder each other.
Contrary to my expectations, what with the heat, open and un-airconditioned eating area, and an abundance of open food plates, I did not see a single fly. Not one. That's odd, when you think about it. But good.
Summary: the food is good but the service crumbles under pressure. No entertainment for kids. Not a pet in sight. I would say that this would be the best place to go after sunset, because by then the children and the mad dogs and Englishmen will all have gone home and you could sit there and quietly drink yourself under the table while the crisp-clear brilliance of millions of stars in the Southern night sky shines down...
Read moreWhat a disappointing and unfortunate experience at Pearly Beach which I feel compelled to share because of the horrific nature of the incident. I visited the restaurant with friends on Saturday. Before leaving, we visited the bathroom. As the last one of my friends wanted to use the bathroom, she noticed a phone being held by someone in the cubicle next to us, clearly indicating that it was recording. All of us immediately informed one of the waiters, who informed her manager. He informed us that he would handle it as professional as possible. However, in the same breath he said that we should please not make this situation worse than it already was. He undoubtedly and very clearly dismissed our concerns and our right to privacy. After the waiter went into the bathroom, she confirmed that there were definitely more than one person in the cubicle. Eventually two young girls emerged from the cubicle. The manager made no attempt whatsoever to even try and When the two girls left the bathroom there was no attempt by the manager to question the girls, despite our visible distress. I confronted the girls myself. When I confronted the manager later on, his defense was that he did not have the right or permission to confront the girls as they were minors. Every day children are being exploited and trafficked. These two girls most definitely did not realise that they could be victims themselves if they pursued this kind of behaviour. The manager should have called their parents and informed them of what happened. We on the other hand did not receive as much as an apology for what happened on the premises. I am shocked and apalled by the whole situation and this restaurant would not have the privilege of...
