I had some time to pass waiting for a friend in Stellenbosch on a Sunday morning, and thought I'd get some remote work done at a trendy-looking coffeeshop until she arrived for a brunch. I occupied a small single table in the corner and got on with it. The place was busy and all seemed great, until the manager (I assume) came up to me and said something along the lines of: "This might sound strange, but can you please move to the counter," (he was referring to a counter with one open seat where I'd have to squeeze in-between two strangers). I told him that I understand that they are busy and I'm happy to order more stuff if I can stay seated where I am. He said, "No, this is a Sunday and the counter is designated for the students." I explained to him that I am not a student, but that didn't seem to matter, he didn't want me sitting there. I ended up leaving to go to another coffeeshop across the street. Read moreI recently had a very underwhelming experience at Hygge Hygge. I visited with a colleague and the service was incredibly SLOW. I ordered a small cappuccino but was brought a large one because the barista made a mistake with the order. I ordered the Harvest Bowl which was very bland and lacked flavour overall. I ate half of my meal and asked for the other half to be packed for take away. Around half an hour passed and no one brought me my take away meal nor did the waitrons check if we needed anything else. We eventually decided to pay inside and when I asked for my takeaway meal, the waiter who took my food looked confused and told me to wait. It turns out that my food was not packed for takeaway but simply taken out -- and to my surprise, on the bill I was charged for the large cappuccino when I didn't even order it, or finish it. Our bill was not compensated in any way -- what a waste of time, food and money. I certainly will...
Read moreHygge hygge is situated on Church Street in the heart of Stellenbosch. Deriving its name from the Danish concept of "hygge", which refers to finding comfort, pleasure, and warmth in simple, soothing things such as a cozy atmosphere or the feeling of friendship. This warm atmospheric restuarant truly lives up to its unique name. Beyond being a great place to meet a friend for a social and delicious breakfast, Hygge Hygge is one of the finest "cafe-offices" in town. With plug points throughout, great wifi and the ability to provide coffee and connectivity even during power outages and loadshedding, this is a gem of an on the go workplace.
Since I last wrote this Hygge Hygge has implemented a data limit on their Wi-Fi meaning it is no longer the mobile office it was. Their coffee also simply doesn't compete with competitors like...
