Read moreBarely deserve half a star for that experience. SUCH a nice venue, but what an underwhelming experience. We were greeted by a waiter when seated at an unreserved table. Great full they could seat us. Service was RUSHED, and the waiter seemed uninterested. We were not advised on any specials or any recommendations.
To drink, we had wine. Which was not bad as expected.
To eat. We ordered pizza as they looked good when serving other patrons To our dislike, it seems that they do not have spices in Rome Nor is salt and pepper on the table a thing It was truly bland just short of a slice of cardboard We also attitude the four cheese gnocchi ,this was truly a sad dish. Over cooked soggy gnocchi, served with a pale white cheese sauce that tasted like it came from a packet served in a white plate without so much as a piece of garnish to make it not looked like a plate of snow
The waiter was again not looking to assist us as he could not even keep.eye contact when we asked him for some more wine a.d water for the table.
It was only after our bill total exceeded 1500rand that he seemed to realize that we were seated there, but once more, we were let down As at 21h45 they start closing shop. So on asking for a desert, we were told that there are no more available.
We proceeded to finish the wine on our table calmly as would be expected at a restaurant.
At 22h00, we understand that the restaurant closes yes... but to tell patrons that they need to go is absolutely not acceptable.
If you are not able or willing to work in the hospitality industry...dont. having a restaurant with an amazing atmosphere is one thing, but to treat customers they way we were treated should...
Read moreMy Mum and I visited Rome in a Bite yesterday as we were on a short holiday in Stellenbosh. We were starving. As we are Muslim we needed Halaal dietary requirements. We had tried a few restaurants, all of whom could not cater to our needs (we needed to know that the vegetation and fish dishes were made separately from the meat dishes, with separate utensils). No other restaurant we approached in Stellenbosh even tried to accommodate this request, which is so disheartening. Also surely Vegans would not want contamination either?
However, when we approached the Waitress at Rome in A Bite, she assured us that there is separation in the kitchen. We opted for 2 vegetarian pastas, a salad and a tuna sandwich (we were very hungry) as these she knew for certain would not be contaminated.
I really respected her ability to think out of the box and make it work for us, thus not losing a customer. I wish I remembered her name! Perhaps the general market in Stellenbosh do not require these dietary specifications but this was the only restaurant willing to go that extra mile and that says alot about the waitress as well as the owners. So thank you and well done.
Regarding the food, everything was delicious. The meals were simple yet tasty. We finished everything bar a small amount of salad.
Thank you to the waitress for your positivity towards inclusiveness, it will take you far.
Great Service, Tasty Food, And a...
