We visited the restaurant with a group of six people and unfortunately we were overall disappointed with our experience.
The food was rated individually by all of us:
Three of us ordered the Mozambique prawns, which were unfortunately small and definitely not up to the expected standard. A waitress explained to us that they ran out of prawns the night before, despite the manager claiming they were Mozambique prawns. They were dry and difficult to peel from the shell, as well as lacking flavour. Due to our hunger, we still ate it.
One person ordered the curry, which was good in flavour, but a side dish was forgotten. Despite asking twice and a long wait, they were finally served.
Another person ordered pasta with mussels, which unfortunately was barely edible.
The lamb we ordered was medium-rare, but was rather rare and the meat was cold.
The manager offered us a replacement menu for one person as compensation, which was very tasty. In the end, however, we were still charged for three prawns (the most expensive dish on the menu), which we felt was unreasonable. After a discussion with the manager, we agreed that we would only be charged for two plates of prawns and the alternative menu on offer. Nevertheless, we found this solution unsatisfactory (knowing that we returned the plates empty). We paid anyway, but without the usual tip.
We had also ordered water - two bottles of sparkling and two bottles of still. Unfortunately, we were only brought one bottle each. Although we made it clear that all six of us were 100% sure that we had not received 2 bottles, the waiter insisted that we had been given this water.
Overall, we were disappointed with our visit and hope that this feedback will help future guests have a better experience. We believe in constructive criticism and hope that the restaurant will take these suggestions on board to improve the quality of the food and service. Unfortunately we will not be visiting this restaurant again, too much was not at the...
Read moreUpon arrival, I was welcomed by the upbeat sound of house music. The restaurant was bustling yet exuded a fantastic vibe and ambiance.
A gentleman greeted us at the entrance and asked for my booking details. After confirming my name, he quickly searched through a list and then asked where I would like to sit. He escorted me to our table, handed us the menus, and informed us that our waiter would be with us shortly.
Our waiter, Akhona, promptly approached us to take our order. We requested a few minutes to decide, and she kindly accommodated our request.
After about five minutes, Akhona returned to take our drink order. We opted for a non-alcoholic orange cocktail and a bottle of Beyerskloof. It would have been nice to have the wine available by the glass since I wasn't fond of the options for the Pinotage.
For starters, we chose the Avalanche sushi and bone marrow. Although the order was delivered by another server, Akhona did check in on us, though we didn't see her much afterward due to the restaurant's busyness. Another server came by to take our main course order. As for the food itself, the presentation, taste, and flavors were impeccable—definitely a solid 10/10. The lamb chops were tender and bursting with flavor, cooked perfectly to a medium-rare. The rump steak was also good, with just a bit of sinew but expertly prepared.
Though I would have loved to try dessert, the portions were quite filling and satisfying.
Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Dukka Restaurant and Bar, and I highly recommend...
Read moreThe Duck main dish had no starch which was not explained as the potato potion of the meal explanation is mixed in the puree which the plate is garnished with, so not much of an effect to the meal. The vegetable on this plate was a single baby carrot and a stalk of brocilli which was not adequate for the protein so very unbalanced and not explained at the time of ordering...even though I asked for an opinion of the Duck dish. I then asked for a portion of mash to accompany my protein and I was brought a bowl of store bought "Smash" not a potato made mash which was disgusting to say the least. This brought the main of my course to R400 which I would have expected to pay for a well prepared and paired dish not what I had.
I then opted for the cheesecake which was a chocolate variant. The base tasted lika.crushed tennis biscuit base with a no bake cheesecake mixture for the filling. This is again not what I expected from a desert that costs close to R140 ...if I wanted a no bake desert I can get that from the Woolworths fridge at rhe garage for half that cost.
To top this off the waitress had doubled some of our servings more than once and if we had not checked we would have paid and left thinking the evening was much more expensive then it already was for the quality and lack of technique. The ambience and vibe was vibey and merry...
