I recently had the pleasure of visiting Continental Deli ( We call it the BURFEE PALACE- Sweetmeats Fit For The Gods !) located at 109 Mathews Meyiwa Rd, Windermere, Durban, 4001, and I must say it exceeded my expectations. As a food lover, I was seeking high-quality meats, freshly baked goods, and a diverse selection of deli products, and this place delivered on all fronts.
Upon entering the establishment, I was immediately drawn to the warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff greeted me with a friendly smile and were incredibly knowledgeable about their products. It was evident that Continental Deli takes pride in their offerings, as every item seemed carefully selected.
The butcher section showcased an impressive array of meats. From tender cuts of beef to succulent poultry, I was spoilt for choice. The quality was exceptional, and the butchers were more than happy to assist me in choosing the perfect cuts for my needs. The freshness and flavor of the meats were evident in every bite, and it was clear that Continental Deli pays close attention to sourcing top-notch products.
Moving on to the bakery section, the aroma of freshly baked goods filled the air. The display was a feast for the eyes, with an assortment of artisanal bread, pastries, and treats. I couldn't resist trying their freshly baked baguettes, and they did not disappoint. The crust was perfectly golden and crisp, while the inside was soft and flavorful. It was evident that their bakers possess great skill and passion for their craft.
Lastly, the deli section was a treasure trove of culinary delights. From a variety of imported cheeses to carefully cured meats and olives, I was delighted by the extensive selection. It was evident that Continental Deli takes pride in offering a diverse range of gourmet products, catering to the tastes of their discerning customers.
Overall, my experience at Continental Deli was outstanding. The combination of high-quality meats, freshly baked goods, and a wide variety of deli products makes it a haven for food enthusiasts like myself. The dedication of the staff to providing exceptional customer service was evident throughout my visit.

Read moreMy colleagues and I literally work within 500 meters of this place. We ordered 3 tikka chickens and chips. The taste was incredible, however, half way through, two of us (one of which was me) noticed that the chicken looked a little pink and to my dismay it was RAW (may as well have asked to be murdered - because I’m not sure if you are aware that salmonella can kill people!!!) So I gave them call and was told to bring it back and I could get a refund on the goods purchased (especially when it’s close to a good R70 for a quarter chicken and chips),to which I packed both up in the same containers they came in and walked on to lovely old Continental where I was greeted by a lovely young black lady who works in the restaurant and she very gladly helped me find the man I had spoken to. The guy I spoke to was busy in the butchery so I was handed over to another man, where he took my parcels and proceeded to the kitchen/pizza oven area, where he put more sauce on it straight from the container (as mentioned above, we had already eaten some) & recooked it. I was given my half eaten meals and a few extra chips and walked on back to my office, only to find that our chicken was still RAW!!!!!! Oh yes, further to the above their excuse for a raw chicken was that 3 staff members didn’t show up for work - PS: not my problem...
I was absolutely flabbergasted that they would recook a half eaten meal and not refund my monies - after all I could have died from SALMONELLA!!!
WILL NOT BE GOING BACK - EVER!!! Nor will I recommend it to a blind man!
Never mind the fact that this store is so expensive, they don’t even allow their staff to walk through the front door because only the bosses or managers are allowed to - just FYI, you’re all equals without that title!
I received the response that I should contact them, however, they had their time to shine & unfortunately this light...
Read moreHmmm.... the word that came to mind when I visited this place for the first time today was “fresh” not a word one would generally associate with a butchery, but this place can be the exception. Upon entry one is greeted with a display of decadent delights in the form of traditional sweet meats. One would be forgiven to think that this was only for display but the giveaway is the tongs and a stack of medium sized cake boxes. We entered into the somewhat smallish eating area/restaurant with no attention from any staff and found ourselves sitting at an 8 seater table. After still not receiving any attention I decided to walk over to the counter to establish the protocol to order some bites. In no time a waitress attended to our needs. While waiting for the prep, I decided to explore and found myself at the other end off the establishment at where the food gets prepared. I was greeted by the man in charge who was more than accommodating when I explain the whole google local guide review and graciously allowed pics to be taken. I found out that Continental moved into this area 5 years ago. The smell of freshly baked bread reminded me that I was indeed in need of sustenance and I got back to my table ate my breakfast wrap and went on a small shop over in the butchery section. Got a chance to sample their jalapeño chicken wors which I ended up buying. All-in-all and great place, well laid out and an excellent variety to choose from whether it’s just a nibble or something to bust your hunger, this place is well worth the visit. Con... well parking is always a sticky issue in most places Durban but a little patience...
