I visited because I'm a fan of the film Oldboy and wanted to take pictures and try the dumplings to takeaway, as I had a train to catch.
I walk in at around noon on a Tuesday. The restaurant was half full. The woman behind the counter clocks me and immediately throws me an X with her arms. I didn't even say a word.
Now I had a 70L Osprey bag on my back, which could have easily gone in a corner somewhere if I did want to sit down and eat but if I were a betting man, I'd say that's not why she didn't want me there, given that we were practically opposite Busan's biggest commuter hub, I can't be the first tourist she's seen with a bag.
It felt incredibly discriminatory as I'm not a Korean nor am I a Caucasian tourist. Her attitude absolutely stank and I probably should have done a 180 and left but I pulled out my Google translate and wait for her to serve a few tables, then show her I want dumplings to takeaway. She then grabs a menu, points at the dumplings and I nod.
I give her my credit card and she put it in her machine but it rejects the payment. My app flashes up that it's automatically rejected because it wants me to put a pin in, while she tries again. I try to show her I need to put a pin in but at this point she's had enough of my presence and calls out the chef.
At this point I just take cash out of my wallet and want to tell them what I think of them but again, I remain calm. I don't really want them to spit in my food. Again, I should have just left.
The chef brings me to the front doors and offers me a plastic seat.
Meanwhile, she dots around the restaurant, muttering things under her breath. A few minutes later she brings the dumplings in small black bag that belongs in a pedal bin in one hand and shoes me away with her other hand. I've literally done nothing to this woman but patronise her restaurant and give her money for the pleasure of her prejudice.
The dumplings. Really nothing special. Oily and not crispy. I threw away 2 of them. They'd be a 5 out of 10 had I not been subjected to that treatment but it left a bitter taste in my mouth so they get a...
Read moreCame here because Oldboy. There were only locals eating when we came, it was a bit hard to get understood by the staff but we made it work. We wanted to order the regular dumplings but ended up ordering a massive size one, and we ordered two portions thinking they were small... They were still nice, a bit greasy, but nice. We ended up sharing them with another customers as it was too much. I wouldn't come here all the way if you are not a hardcore Oldboy fan, but if you are around and you want some cheap Chinese-Korean food,...

Two movies were filmed here(old boy, and cloeser to heaven).
It is a pretty cozy place 5 tables in the hall and 2 semi-private rooms.
We ordered a small plate of fried dumplings and mapo tofu and rice.
The dumplings were huge and yummy and the tofu dish had an addictive quality to it.
We really enjoyed the food here and during this pandemic area, you should come and visit while not a lot of...
