It's naengmyeon... for a price of 9000 (or 11000 for an unecessarily larger portion), I expected it to be more special than a typical 5000 or 6000 naengmyeon a few blocks away in Eunhaengdong. My advice is that this place is most worth it if you plan to get bulgogi with sides of naengmyeon... that way you will at least get a lot of sides to enjoy. With ours we got nothing but extra radish... we even had to specifically ask for kimchi!

사리원면옥이라 하니 당연히 황해도식 냉면을 기대했다 (사리원은 황해북도의 도청소재지). 일단 비주얼은 황해도식 냉면이 맞다; 순메밀(또는 메밀 함도가 높은)면이 아니고 눈에 보기에도 전분의 함도가 제법 높은 면이다. 먹어봐도 그렇다. 마치 함흥냉면인냥 이빨로 쉽게 끊어지지 않는다. 반면 육수는 아리송하다. 황해도식은 돼지뼈를 삶은 육수와 동치미 국물을 섞는 것으로 알고 있는데.. 소고기 육수도 아닌 것이 그렇다고 돼지뼈 육수 맛도 아닌 것 같다. 서빙하는 아주머니께 물으니 단칼에 소고기 육수라 하신다. 그러니 그런 줄 아는 수 밖에.. 1951년에 사리원 출신의 실향민 일가가 대전에 처음 문을 열어 벌써 4대째 가업으로 이어오고 있다하니, 그 사이에 고급화 등의 이유로 돼지뼈와 소양지 등을 섞어서 육수를 내는 방법을 터득했을 지도 모르겠다. 암튼 순메밀면이 살짝 육수에 풀려 어우러지는 단백 고소한 육수 감칠맛이 없는게 아쉬울 따름이다 (전분 함량이 높은 면은 그렇게 되질 않는다). 김치비빔이라는 곁들이 메뉴가 있는데 소고기 편육과 김치를 양념장에 버무린 것을 말한다. 맛있다! 냉면을 먹기 전에 반접시만 시켜도 혼자서 소주 한 두병은 무난히 비울 수 있는 안주다 (선주후면의 신세계! 😋). 굳이 비빔냉면을 따로 시키지 않아도 그 맛이 어떨런지 짐작이 가게하는 반찬이다.

대전에서 유명한 한식당인데, 1952년부터 4대째 가업으로 운영중이라고 한다. 한국전쟁중에 황해도 사리원시에서 피난 내려와 대전에서 정착하고 가게를 오픈했다고 하니, 70년이 넘은 오랜 세월을 이어오고 있는 식당이다. 소불고기와 소/돼지 양념갈비가 주메뉴이고, 냉면, 갈비탕, 만두국 등이 식사메뉴이다. 생각보단 메뉴의 종류가 많지는 않은것 같다. 1층과 2층을 매장으로 운영하는데, 실내는 아주 넓은편이고 깨끗하다. 개별룸도 몇개가 있고, 좌식자리도 준비되어 있다. 테이블마다 설치되어 있는 테블릿을 이용해서 주문하는 방식이다. 소불고기는 버섯과 야채, 당면이 듬뿍 들어 있는 전형적인 국물불고기 스타일이다. 양도 적당하고 맛도 좋다. 반찬들도 맛있는데 특히 겉절이가 아주 맛있다. 지하철 중앙로역에서 도보로 10분정도의 거리에 있고, 주차장도 크게 조성되어 있어 이용은 아주 편리하다.

If you got already used to "Seoul-style" cold noodles, named "pyongyang" cold noodles (as being apparent after inter-korea summit), this place will be a definite and big disappoint, I am sure. Terrific food. We ordered pork bbq and cold noodles (냉면). The entire family came away supremely satisfied and full. And the cost of the entire meal is less than half of what we would have paid in US at a subpar restaurant. I love Korea for many reasons but food and lower cost of eating out definitely is one of my top reasons for coming here...
