옛집가마솥 — Restaurant in Gyeongju-si

If I can, I will give 0 star for this restaurant. Firstly, when I was setting on their couch, my shoulder felt a drop of kind of liquid from the plafond. And then I realized it was a drop of oil and there was a pipe of air evacuation ( for bbq) above my head Then, as we don’t want to eat much meat for dinner, the waiter recommended their stew set so we ordered for two people which costs 18000 krw per person. We expected to receive something shown like in their menu (pic 1) and then when we almost finished the meal and we realized we never received the shrimps and the little black bowl shown in the pic. The most funny part is coming . I asked the waiter if that is all we ordered and why there is no shrimp and the little black bowl. He told me : this shrimp dish is disappeared after a shrimp VIRUS. LOL, we have been in Korea for more than 1 week and we had a lot of seafood ( crab , shrimps etc) . Never heard that virus. If that is the case , why the waiter recommended this set and didn’t told us there is no shrimp anymore ? And why the price keep the same? And the little black bowl is the one in my pic 3 . LOL This is the worst restaurant we had in Korea. For one stew and one dish , we paid 36000krw which is even more expensive...

After a long day and nap, we left our hanok after 9pm to find dinner. Many Gyeongju restaurants were closed early; this was in October.

With Google and Naver, we found "Eupseong Handon". It is a clean and overly-bright restaurant.

We chose the Korean BBQ beef short ribs and brisket. This is one of those places which required a minimum beef order, which was acceptable to us because we were hungry. We also ordered the beef tofu stew and the seafood ramen. Total for two with beer was KRW78,000.

Food was good, but not remarkable. Price was not outrageous.

We were served a standard selection of kimchi and a lot of leafy greens for wrapping the meat. There was a self-serve kimchi bar if we wanted to top off and which is probably used during busy times during the day.

As noted by another reviewer, the staff wanted to grill for us, but I politely waved them off. We knew how to grill and wanted to control our pace of dining.

There were a lot of stray cats loitering...

Awful! We came in and were appointed a seat and then everything went south. We didn't get a chance to look at the menu besides the first part for the BBQ meat. Then after being pushed to order we were given a fork and spoon. And only after looking confused and upset were given chopsticks. Then when the food came the staff didn't give us a chance to prepare the food ourselves and put everything immediately on the bbq plate. We had to rush our food, couldn't take the time and were the only table this happened to. It left us anxious and upset, we felt like they thought we were too stupid or something to eat and prepare our food ourselves. We were rushed to finish our food and to leave the store. This place is incredibly discriminated towards non-Asian people. We would've rather have them tell us they didn't want us there. Never again! For anyone visiting Gyeongju and being non-asian, do not go here for a nice meal, because you won't...
