Honestly, I don’t want to share this place. It’s already Booning on the weekend, and soon might have waiting lists miles long, and no time to converse with the super knowledgeable and helpful staff behind the bar — even during the week.
Here you go though. This place is an absolute gem that would stand out even in Hong Kong or London, and yet it’s hidden down a small alley in Gyeongju. If your poison is whisky and/or cocktails — this is your place. Their whisky selection is one of the best I have seen, and their cocktails are original (and very) tasty takes on several classics. The cocktails are very well-balanced with a good diversity to suit a broad variety of palates and moods. Several have an interesting Korean twist — nothing gimmicky about them though, all of it remains focused on flavour, balance and depth. They go through the effort of making many of their own syrups, flavourings and even their tonic and some of their alcohol themselves. Taste makers for sure.
Though the bartenders and going language are mainly Korean, Jay is fluent in American (English, but as a British English speaker I can’t call it that), and if he isn’t there the others are patient and will make sure they can communicate everything you need to know (and listen) as the friendly professionals they are. I’d dare wager it’s worth spending a night in Gyeongju for. You can do the pretty tourist stuff during the day whilst waiting...
Read moreWe had made a reservation but had to cancel it due to changed plans. Nevertheless, we had a chance to come later that night and the owner came out to us and invited us to a nice table on the second floor, which is sort of a loft. The ambiance is very swanky, with low light and perfect cocktail bar vibes. They have free all you can eat shrimp chips and several tapas style items you can order. We had a cheese and meat plate and a sausage and potatoes plate. Both were tasty. The cocktails were great. They have some traditional options and some unique options, like a cocktail made with radish kimchi juice. They also have good mocktails. And they have whiskeys and soju. No beer. We ended with a dessert cocktail that was like tiramisu in cocktail form. Overall this is a great bar if you are in Gyeongju. Possibly the best bar in the city. It’s also open till 2 am which is nice because nearly all the restaurants...

I recently visited Bar Boon, and I can’t recommend it enough! From the moment I stepped in, I was welcomed by the friendly staff and a cozy, laid-back atmosphere. The bartenders are knowledgeable and truly make you feel like you're in great hands.
The drink selection is impressive – whether you're in the mood for a cocktail or something a bit more unique, they’ve got you covered. I tried Coconut Whiskey Sour, and it was perfectly crafted, with just the right balance of flavors.
The vibe here is just right – it’s relaxed yet lively enough to keep things interesting. The music playlist creates the perfect ambiance, and the space is comfortable whether you're with friends or enjoying a solo night out.
Overall, Bar Boon is the perfect spot for a great drink, good conversation, and a memorable experience. I’ll definitely...
