To dine at Gozip Dol Wooluck, with its panoramic views of Hamdeok Beach, is to submit to the profound culinary will of the Jeju sea. The restaurant's name, translating to "Stubborn Rockfish," is a bold declaration of confidence, a promise that the ocean's bounty will be presented with unwavering integrity. Opting for their Set C was not merely ordering a meal, but embarking on a curated journey—a grand hanjeongsik (Korean set meal) that showcased the island's terrestrial and, most spectacularly, its aquatic treasures.
The centerpiece arrived as a dramatic, crimson-hued cauldron: the Special Rockfish Soup with Abalone and Shrimps. This, however, was no simple soup, but a rich, complex jorim (braise). The rockfish, simmered to tender perfection, flaked away at the mere suggestion of chopsticks, its mild flesh having absorbed the sweet, savory, and deeply spicy notes of the bubbling sauce. Nestled within were treasures: plump, sweet shrimp and slices of abalone, cooked to a perfect, yielding tenderness. The true genius, however, lay in the chunks of daikon radish at the bottom, which had become saturated jewels of flavor.
The table soon filled with a constellation of supporting acts. A platter of Seasonal Vegetables with Octopus & Murex provided a vibrant, textural interlude. Tender octopus and pleasantly chewy murex (a local sea snail) were tossed with crisp greens in a zesty, piquant dressing that awakened the palate. The Deep-Fried Shrimps were flawless, each encased in a light, shatteringly crisp batter that gave way to succulent, steaming flesh. Alongside them, a whole Fried Fish, a humble side dish, emerged as a masterpiece of the fryer's art—impossibly crispy from head to tail, its delicate meat a salty, savory delight.
The bounty continued with a magnificent Grilled Sea Bream (okdom), a prized Jeju fish. Its skin was grilled to a golden, blistered crispness that crackled audibly, revealing pearlescent, flaky flesh that tasted purely of the clean ocean waters. A gentle, savory counterpoint to the seafood's intensity came in the form of Jeju Traditional Pork, likely suyuk (boiled pork slices), which were meltingly tender and subtly flavored.
Tying this grand feast together were the essential foundations. A simple, restorative Seaweed Soup (miyeokguk) offered a moment of calm, its delicate brininess cleansing the palate. The Leaf Wraps and Rice, served in a large communal wooden bowl (nangpunbap), transformed the meal into an interactive experience. Piling a piece of grilled fish, a dollop of rice, and a sliver of garlic onto a crisp lettuce or fragrant perilla leaf created the perfect, harmonious bite.

Read moreOur party arrived at 8:08 on Tuesday, May 18th. We had driven for over an hour from Seongsan to arrive at this location. When we entered the male employee told us that the kitchen was closed. After checking the homepage which clearly says the restaurant closes at 9:30 pm, i called back at 8:15 to ask why he told us the kitchen was closed. He said the kitchen closed at 8:10, but our party had arrived earlier than that. Obviously this man just saw us as unwanted foreigner guests and didnt want our business. I will make sure that i and none of my acquaintances will never patronize this racist and...
