I am not sure how this restaurant got a recommendation by Michelin guide. Although staffs were lovely, food was average in comparison to other restaurants on Michelin guide while ambience was that of a snack bar in the neighborhood. More than anything else, I really start to question authenticity of Michelin guide after visit to Comme Moa.
Restaurant is located in a bit hard to reach but allegedly hip Haebangchon. We arrived rather late at 9pm for late dinner. Server neither greeted us or asked for our name although I have booked one hour in advance. Please is small but cost. One waitress,, who I later learned is the chef herself, was stiff at first but warmed up as we started our dinner.
Two tables were occupied - one a group of bankers, another group of noisy housewives having reunion. Not restaurant’s fault but the incessant noises from the housewives table made the dining experience somewhat unbearable. Once again - not restaurant’s fault,,, more of bad luck on us.
We ordered starter and main meal, followed by wonderful chocolate souffle- it arrived late and chef gave us complimentary espresso as we wished. Menu is small overall but so is the restaurant. It almost feels like you are at someone’s house. But it’s not home cooking as food seemed a bit too average for its price while service is somewhat rushed. Then again, staff looked pretty tired. Housewives went on with their noise with Vigo ur so who can blame them? I almost asked them to put the noise down until I realized that it’s time to go more than anything else.
Two people - starter, main meal, two glasses of sparkling wine and two desert - all in KRW 180,000 = USD 150. I think they can do a bit better at this price range,, especially given that Michelin guide decided to recognized them.
Having said this, staffs are young and you can see that they are sincerely trying their best - so much that I almost feel bad writing such mediocre review. They can do better - maybe it’s time for them to spice thing up and go to next step? I look forward to that and possibly another visit to...
Read moreMy experience at Comme Moa was excellent. The service impeccable. The chef herself, Moa, took my order and was very attentive during my time there. But the food was amazing!!! My beast meal over my 10 days trip to South Korea. A truly French restaurant. Maybe better than many in France. I could say that maybe one of the best French restaurants that I try over the years (and I love French cuisine…) I had the duck terrine with pistachios and truffle, the beef Wellington (perfectly cooked, with truffles and bacon), the mashed potatoes au gratin, and the orange soufflé as a dessert. Everything was delicious! The house wine, a Villa Saint Gris Cabernet, was good too. A highly recommended restaurant in Seoul. Thank you Moa and your team for a great last...
Read moreAmazing beef wellington at a reasonable price(40,000KRW per person). Foie gras is not available right now. There are 2 tables for 4 people, and rest of the tables are for couples. If you are going for beef wellington, one should make reservations in advance.(Day before).
Parking space is scarce around this part of the town. Use public parking lot at the top of the hill, but make some slacks in schedule since the parking lot is very crowded.
Also, more info about Beef wellington; they offer 2 pieces for each person. If you order for 4 people, they serve the first 4 pieces(1 for each person) and then give you the next 4 pieces once you finished eating...
