Joy's Amici — Restaurant in Seoul

Was getting tired of eating only Korean BBQ or Korean Street Food on the tail end of our trip. Found this wonderful place after looking for Italian restaurants near our hotel. We were the last ones in for dinner on a cold rainy Monday night 3/25/2024 after we walked from our hotel. The older Korean husband of the owner welcomed us in. Once Joy saw us, she gave us a warm welcome and made us feel like we were eating at our Aunty and Uncle's house for dinner.

Ordered, Spaghetti with meat sauce, Spaghetti Alla Olo, Steak, House Salad, Garlic Bread, and the Chef Special dessert, Paid approximately $70 for dinner with 5 glasses of wine. You can't beat the value for a family of 4 with alcohol.

Food - Steak was basically Kalbi with Rice and vegetables. It was as advertised, tender, not over cooked with a sweet soy sauce, basically a teriyaki flavored sauce. Spaghetti was devoured by our kids. The dessert was homemade brownie and homemade ice cream, it was so delicious. Food reminded me of good home cooking that you would have when you go to visit your family.

Restaurant is not a 5-star Italian restaurant that you would find at the Four Seasons or Mandarin Hotel, however, that's not what they're trying to be. It's a home cooked meal with a warm atmosphere and unbeatable value.

I love seeing hard working, honest, and humble people succeed. Aunty Joy and her husband encompass all of those qualities. Next time my family is in Seoul, I promise Aunty, we will...

I have visited to this restaurant for lunch occasionally for about 3 years, and I have seen the number of customers steadily increase. And I have observed that this place has its own unique characteristics and consistently receives similar feedbacks.

Here is an interesting cuisine that serves non-Koreanized food in one of the most Korean traditional neighborhoods in Seoul. So every day is a challenge. Running this restaurant itself and entering this exotic place are adventures for the customers as well.

For customers who are used to Koreanized pasta and steak, trying the non-Koreanized food here is a second challenge. For those who come expecting familiar tastes, it can end up being an unfamiliar and questionable experience, but for others, it is a wonderful adventure of discovering new tastes. As one of the latter, I think the natural taste without chemical seasoning is the strength of this restaurant. Rather than pursuing food as a commodity, they put a lot of effort into the food with a belief in natural food without artificial seasoning.

The non-Korean characteristic is a welcome familiarity that foreigners encounter in an unfamiliar travel destination. It is a great fortune for travelers to be able to find comforting food that makes them feel like they are at home in a foreign country. That is why here is very popular among foreigners.

If you are curious about the taste of American home cooking, come visit. It will add variety to your food experience. And I highly recommend dessert. Here is a great place for dessert. Coffee, tea, panna cotta, brownie a la mode are all delicious, and dessert is loved by everyone.

미국에서 운영하시던 식당을 코로나 때 한국에 개업하셔서 초반 고군분투하시다가 꾸준히 손님이 느는 걸 봤습니다. 그리고 이 레스토랑만의 특색이 있어 한결같은 평가를 받는 것도 봐왔습니다.

서울에서 가장 한국적인 곳들 중 한 동네에서 한국적이지 않은 음식을 하는 흥미로운 음식점입니다. 그래서 매일이 도전의 연속이었다고 생각합니다. 이 음식점을 운영하는 것 자체가, 그리고 간판에서부터 이국적인 분위기를 풍기는 이곳에 와보는 손님들에게도요.

한국화된 파스타와 스테이크 맛에 익숙해진 손님들 입장에서는, 한국 현지화보다는 미국에서 운영하시던 그대로인 맛을 먹어보는 게 두 번째 도전이라고 비유해 볼 수 있겠네요. 익숙한 맛을 기대하고 온 분들에게는 낯설고 질문이 가득한 시간으로 끝나기도 하지만, 또 어떤 분들에게는 새로운 맛을 발견한 좋은 경험이 되는 걸 지켜봐왔습니다. 저는 후자 중 한 사람이었고, 조미료를 사용하지 않은 자연스러운 맛이 조이스 아미치 장점이라고 생각합니다. 상품으로서의 음식을 추구하기보다는, 인공 조미료를 사용하지 않는 자연스러운 음식에 대한 소신으로 오랜 시간 공을 들이는 음식들입니다.

한국적이지 않다는 특성은, 반대로 외국인들에게는 낯선 여행지에서 만나게 되는 반가운 친숙함이 되는 재밌는 광경도 여러 번 봤습니다. 한국 사람들 백반집에서 편하게 밥 먹듯 외국인들도 여기선 그렇더군요. 사장님 부부께서 미국에서 오래 사시다 오셔서 더 그렇고요. 집에 온 것 같은 기분으로 안도감을 주는 음식을 타국에서 만날 수 있다는 건 여행자에게는 큰 행운이지요. 그래서 외국인들에게는 인기 만점이었다고 봅니다.

We recently held our company party at this restaurant. The food was great. The pasta was perfectly cooked, with flavors that were beautifully blended, and the steak was absolutely amazing, cooked to perfection.

Their signature desserts were the perfect way to end the meal.

The service was just as impressive. The owners, who personally manage the restaurant, are warm, accommodating, and fluent in English, making the entire experience even more enjoyable.

The location is incredibly convenient, just a 2-minute walk from City Hall Station in Seoul, making it an ideal spot for gatherings.
