Sudowon — Restaurant in Seoul

This bar was shown to me 7 years ago and is the reason I love good beer. Going back to the states after, I was so disappointed by American IPAs and long despaired for the day I’d want to go back and Sudowon to be gone.

At the time, I knew this place as only “the monestary” and could only afford to go once in awhile.

Since my last trip, Sudowon was top of my list to visit. It hasn’t changed much. Old Rasputin is still on draft and the atmosphere is still immaculate. I brought my partner and lamented about how this bar sets the standards for all bars with its candlelit cave like feel with smooth jazz carrying the night’s vibes.

This bar is in the basement of a red brick building. It's dark, candlelit, and has a special atmosphere. It's modeled after a medieval monastery. The grand music goes well with the space. They have abbey ales and wines, meat pie, cheese and salami, and strawberry tiramisu etc.

Good bar. Very dark, but easily comparable to brick "traditional" taverns in Stockholm, Wrocław, or Tallinn. Cozy jazz, European (multiple countries of origin) beverages, and candles tie the place together. If you like BeNeLux beers, southwestern European wines, and a nice selection of scotch whiskies.
