A Local Tragedy in an Idyllic Setting...
Otelo, perched on Tenerife's scenic coast, tantalisingly promises an epicurean delight only to deliver an ordeal as frustrating as a Shakespearian tragic play. It’s a tale of exquisite views, unassuming but robust fare, and unfathomably flawed service.
The sprawling, breathtaking vista that unravels from Otelo's vantage point is near theatrical in its grandeur. It's a vista that intoxicates, seducing you into a sense of serenity and anticipation. It's here that Otelo unveils its prologue and then promptly squanders its impressively dramatic setting.
There's a rustic charm to the menu, the rabbit and garlic chicken dishes being worth a mention. They are unpretentious yet flavoursome, prepared in a style that whispers of traditional cooking. This quaint culinary authenticity, however, finds itself marooned in the chaotic narrative of Otelo's service.
The service – or, more accurately, the ghost thereof – proves to be Otelo's unraveling. There is a chilling lack of warmth or welcome; the staff seem to navigate their way around with an aloof indifference that is as puzzling as it is off-putting. As tourists, we were left to drift in a sea of confusion, with nary a hand extended in guidance or reassurance.
A horde of locals filled the place, usually a reassuring signal of the quality one can expect. Yet, even this could not alleviate the feeling of being the forgotten extras on the set of a misdirected play. Left on the margins, we grappled with an overriding sense of being underwhelmed, yearning for the finesse that this idyllic location deserved.
In essence, Otelo is a story of missed opportunities. It's an establishment that could – and should – deliver a superb dining experience, but falls short, leaving a bitter aftertaste. It remains an enigma, the gastronomic equivalent of a captivating novel with a disappointingly...
Read moreA great restaurant filled mostly with locals with an amazing sea view. The wind is light and the weather amazing on the restaurant with a closed and open section. It has a good parking place. The taste of the roasted chicken was great, ask for the mojo and roustique potatoes for an upgraded experience. The prices were pretty good (almost low). For one chicken plus soup, potatoes and sodas we spent around 20€. Fully recommended for large families and tourists that want to try local food. It is one of tenerife's best restaurants for sure. I would dry a bit the fat from the chicken before serving to make it look better but that is just a...
Read moreNice place, very suggestive view. The staff was kind and helpful, we particularly appreciated them saving us the embarrassment by promptly proposing us the house special dish. We took the fried chicken with "potatoes arrugadas", a local dish. The food was served quickly and was just amazing: tasty, well cooked and abundant. Then we asked for the bill, and there the most pleasant surprise, we were 4 peoples and we spent, with beverages 34,40€, and we were completely full, despite being good forks.
So definitely raccomanded!
