La Vela/El Velero — Restaurant in Alaior

The place was really nice, but everything else was not. We didn’t have a reservation but they took us in anyway, which was nice. We had to wait quite a bit just to have the menus and from the time that we ordered and got our food, almost an hour passed. I ordered a pizza and my wife ordered the mixed sea fruits. They served my wife’s foood first and mine was not served with no explanation. Then a waitress came in saying that the pizza had burnt and I had to wait more than 15 minuets to get my food. The home wine that we got served was less than half a small glass full. The appetisers never came, but they still charged us for it, went to complain about it and no apologies for that. The staff was nice, but quite unorganised. My pizza was ok, and my wife’s mixed fruit plate size was quite small with only few variety of sea fruit. Quite disappointing to be honest!

Edit: In regards to the reply from the owner: I appreciate how it was busy, and it was nice from you to take us in. But if it was “that busy” you simply should have not take us in. We can have all the empathy in the world, but if we do get a poor service as paying customer, please don’t be surprised to have a poor review. And yes they did serve us the limoncello...

I recently had dinner at this restaurant and unfortunately, I left with mixed feelings. The service, in particular, was quite disappointing.

Firstly, one of our beer glasses seemed unclean, so my boyfriend politely asked for a replacement. It's understandable that occasionally a glass might slip through the cracks, but what bothered us was the waiter's attitude. Instead of simply exchanging the glass, he held it up to the window to inspect it as if we were lying about its cleanliness. This made us feel uncomfortable and unnecessarily questioned.

Moreover, the food did not live up to our expectations. The calzone we ordered lacked the authentic taste we were hoping for. It was flat and the bread felt heavy, which detracted from the overall enjoyment of the dish.

While we understand that mistakes can happen, it is crucial for restaurant staff to handle such situations with professionalism and courtesy. Unfortunately, the waiter's behavior overshadowed our dining experience.

Our family had a superb meal here with lots of fresh, local produce and a great selection of Menorcan dishes as well as pastas and pizzas. The local Mussels and Bream were outstanding and definitely to be recommended as was the Monkfish and shellfish kebabs. The Crema Catalana was definitely a good choice for dessert too.
