Stayed here in Sept 23. ||First of all, this is a difficult review to write as we did have a lovely holiday. Also worth remembering is that, for the money charged to stay here, it does offer a lot of positives. But it also has some issues that really need addressing. ||I will start with those issues but please read below to the end as there are some very positive points to this resort:||First off, we were given room 112. On entering we were met with a strong smell of disinfectant. However, within hours that smell changed to a very bad stale / putrid urine smell. Over night this became unbearable. On speaking to the manager the next morning (who was incredibly helpful and a really nice guy), he stated that this happens when it rains and that it was drains related. He moved us to room 102 which is on the opposite side of the resort. Both rooms are one flight of stairs up on the first floor. He also, very honestly, stated that he couldn't guarantee the same issue wouldn't happen in this room.|Within hours the smell was present in the new room. We went down and asked for some bleach / disinfectant which he kindly supplied along with some air freshener. The issue still appeared even when it didn't rain.|When the disinfectant was poured down the sink, toilet and shower, the smell disappeared. We eventually bought a large bottle of bleach in the supermarket and applied it last thing at night. No more issues. |I'm not sure this is either weather related or drain related. It's more like the bathrooms are poorly plumbed. |Bottom line is? It needs fixing as the smell is really bad. ||Secondly, the rooms have been poorly decorated over damaged walls. It feels tired. ||Thirdly, the bathroom towels are thin, feel old and are not particularly pleasant to use. You do also get towels to use poolside. ||That last point wouldn't be so bad but ours were only changed once in a week. The room was cleaned with "fresh" towels on the Wednesday, the day after we changed rooms (we arrived on the Monday). We actually left on the following Monday and the room was untouched for the following 4 days before leaving early on the Monday.||Putting all that aside, the resort does have some major positives. ||The rooms are large and roomy. |The AC is cold and although situated in the living area, cools the whole apartment.|The beds (we found) were very comfortable and we slept well. |The pool area is lovely and the pool is cleaned regularly.|The bathrooms (smell aside) are modern with proper walk in showers with plenty of hot water and good pressure. |There is plenty of hanging space for clothes.|The bar is great (gin and tonics were superb). We didn't eat there. |The staff are excellent. The manager really did do his best for use for which we are grateful. |The entertainment is only a couple of nights a week but was very good. Quality over quantity it seems. |Parking is free and plentiful. ||Mainly, the location is superb. It is only 5 mins walk into town so it's incredibly quiet but close enough for all the restaurants in town. In addition to this, Club Menorca with it's incredible position overlooking the bay, is just round the corner and La Palette restaurant and the cave bar / scenic view points are just a short stroll away.||The Beach is also a small walk away if you use the steps at Villa 36 on the scenic road overlooking the sea. It's a bit of a hike back up but that is the case no matter where you stay in Cala en Porter.||Make a point of meeting Thomas the ginger tom cat. He is a real charmer, we met him on the way back from La Palette and he walked us back home and joined us in the apartment for a nightcap. ||I have given three marks as a review. I would have loved to marked it higher but the issues vs. the positives, I think a 3 is fair at this moment in time. || Many thanks for the Nelva Resort. I really hope you can address the issues and so offer the...
Read moreWe have just returned from a 12 night stay. After reading other reviews we were a bit worried about how it would all work out.||The positives were the location, easy of parking and the friendly staff who were fantastic. ||However, there were some negatives. ||There was only air conditioning in the lounge, which meant we had to keep all bedroom doors open at night to cool us down.||The coffee machine in the apartment was a nice touch, but wasn’t supplied with any coffee pods, not even say 4 complimentary ones - they had to be bought from the bar and were non standard pods (i.e not nespresso) so we couldn’t buy them from the supermarket. ||The kitchen was difficult to cook for a family of 5 in. The apartment did have enough plates and pans and cutlery, all very clean, but at the same time there were only 3 chairs at the table which made eating meals as a family very difficult.||This hotel seemed to be popular with large groups so wasn’t quite the relaxing time we were after. It was often very noisy during the middle of the night when they came back from clubbing. It also became apparent that the pool wasn’t exclusively for residents, which meant that it got very busy in the afternoons, with lots of big groups and most not from the hotel.||The rooms were only serviced a few times and I don’t think our sheets were changed once during our stay - the beds were just made. ||The apartment was clean but quite tired and needed an update, woodwork for example hasn’t been painted in years. The shower continuously flooded and the cheap flooring in the hall and lounge was coming up which was a trip hazard which looked like it had been damaged from a previous bathroom shower leak.||The smell (also mentioned in other reviews) was there for the first half of our stay - masked with a bleach smell - but dissipated towards the remainder of the holiday.||I had high hopes for our stay here but left feeling that it was highly over priced for what it was and we won’t be returning. It would have been acceptable at...
Read moreIn short, a really great resort for those wanting a relaxing, fuss free holiday. We arrived late evening and were impressed by the modern, clean reception and excellent reception manager who booked us in and gave us all the information we needed. The main concern is always going to be the apartment. Our ground floor apartment was very clean, modern and we were at ease immediately. One double bed, two singles plus a high quality double sofa bed in lounge. Double hob, toaster, kettle and coffee machine plus everything you need to do the washing up! Air conditioner was excellent, in the lounge but kept the whole apartment cool. Best thing, it was silent running, you could easily sleep without it disturbing you. Pool was excellent, again exceptionally clean. It's a small resort which is a boon for having a young child with you. Children's pool is less than a metre deep, adult pool starts just over a metre up to two metres at the deepest. The pool bar /restaurant is good enough. Good selection of foods for whenever you don't want to cook. Not restaurant quality but great for a pool bar. Throughout staff were always happy to meet your needs. The beach is a big walk away which is the only downside. Either down many many steps which isn't great for everyone. You can also head into town and go to the beach from there. Would certainly come to this...
