Casa Navarro — Restaurant in Alboraia / Alboraya

Not only can I not recommend this restaurant for the normal reasons (poor quality, poor service, mediocre food…), but I also got scammed!

To begin with, the restaurant is very unorganized. For starters, my reservation was for 3:30 PM (on Sunday, June 30), but I did not get a menu until 3:50 PM.

After sitting down for 25 minutes (hot and thirsty), the waiter finally took my order at 3:55.

And here’s the part where I feel like I was scammed (which may be a strong word, but certainly I was taken advantage of as a foreign tourist)….

I asked for tap water (agua de grifo). There is a law in Spain that a restaurant has to provide it. The waited refused to provide it even though I asked in Spanish and even after I told him (in Spanish, once again), that it’s the law in Spain that tap water be provided. His response was “en Casa Navarro no ponemos agua de grifo.” Apparently they are above the law. Unfortunately he betted correctly that I would not ask for a hoja de reclamaciones (I figured I could get one later from a different establishment, but it turns out that you have to do it on the spot). What’s worse is that the bottled water that he brought was already opened and was probably tap water anyway — they probably refilled bottles of water that they already recovered from other tables — really disgusting.

I ordered the paella mixta and it really was not that great. I’m not even Spanish and I make better paella at home.

When the paella arrived, the waiter basically threw it on the table with no utensils. I had to get his attention to get utensils (after sitting there for about an hour) and also something to use to serve the paella. I’ve rarely been to a restaurant with such poor service.

The only thing that was decent was the bread, but every trucker cafetería along the highway has good bread in Spain.

You can tell that I’m a little bitter about all of this. It was my first time in Valencia, I was looking forward to paella, and unfortunately I chose Casa Navarro.

I only gave this place one star because that was the minimum. I would have given it zero if that was possible.

Update: I kept the check for proof and disputed the cost of the water on my credit card and won the dispute -- so if they illegally charge you for water (especially if it's water that's already open), dispute it on your...

Es una lastima que por culpa de la pesima atención del algunas personas del personal del restaurante ese dia toda la experiencia se haya venido abajo.

Cada año mi esposo y yo regresamos al restaurante pues nos encantaba su comida y la vibra del lugar pero después de lo que nos paso jamás volveremos.

En primer lugar habia reservado con tiempo una mesa para 4 personas en la zona de las mesas de afuera en la playa para la 1 de la tarde y al llegar el señor que nos atiende nos quiso ubicar en una mesa donde daba completamente el sol. Le pedimos que porfavor nos reubicara pues ibamos con mis padres que son adultos mayores y les haria daño el sol de esa hora y el señor decia que no se podia pues no tenia mas mesas, lo cual no era cierto pues habian muchas mas disponibles ahi mismo y con parasoles y otras en la que se podia abrir unos pero su respuesta era que esas estaban reservadas, yo le mostre la reserva pues yo tambien tenia reserva y parecia que no importaba. Como si unas reservas tuvieran mas peso que otras y por eso a pesar de que fueran para otra hora no nos iban a ubicar mejor… ni siquiera abrir las sombrillas, nada..

En vista de que el señor decía que no de mala forma preguntamos si había entonces en la zona de adentro y en eso llego una señora con la que el mesero hablo y ella dijo que solo tenía disponible una sola mesa, nosotros la aceptamos por mis padres, pero al entrar nos ubicaron en una mesa pegada a la entrada de la cocina del restaurante. Nos sorprendió que nos dijeran eso pues al entrar habian mesas disponibles en todas las demas areas del restaurante (incluyendo las que tienen aire acondicionado) pero parecia de mala intención que nos ubicaran alla. En ningún momento parecía importarles que tuvieramos un rato agradable sino lo opuesto.

Ya en la mesa sentados escuchabamos todo lo que se decía en cocina lo cual era estresante, los platos nos pasaban casi en la cabeza y habia unos tapetes colgados en la pared junto a la mesa como de fique que al moverse con la brisa nos ensuciaba la mesa, con un polvo negro, todos los platos y a nosotros también, lo peor es que de ahi salieron dos cucarachas pequeñas y nos dio un asco terrible. Fue la PEOR EXPERIENCIA y toda una desilusión.

En cuando a la comida pedimos una jarra de sangria y antes mezclaban la cava y la jarra de frutas y esta vez simplemente pusieron todo para que uno mismo lo hiciera, la comida fria empezando con las papas bravas y todo lo demas…

La verdad jamas jamas se disculparon ni cuando les dijimos del mugre que nos cayó encima ni por nada. Esta reseña tambien ira en google pues no es justo que un cliente tenga este trato y nada de los que nos paso, queríamos tener una experiencia agradable y de entrada fue todo...

Terrible service. Do not make dinner plans to eat here unless you want to be left high and dry. We made a dinner reservations for our last night in Valencia. We were looking forward to trying Paella here, but they cancelled our reservation right before our reservation time. There were many appointment slots showing as available when we booked. I can only infer that this meant they’d overbooked the restaurant. Rather than accommodating us or calling us, they merely sent us a cancelation email that we received as we were heading out to their establishment. Then, since it happened so last minute with very little notice, we were unable to make reservations anywhere else and we were resigned to eating a hastily prepared dinner.
