We had a wonderful meal and experience here yesterday. The wood-fired paella mixta was excellent, best meal we have had in three weeks in Valencia. Service was very good by a friendly and efficient waiter.
Some of the complaints on here are are odd. One person complained that the paella was burnt on the bottom and the waiter said that was normal. News flash: it IS normal. That crust is part of the flavour - you scrape that out of the pan and eat it.
I don’t know what to say about people’s negative experiences with staff. Ours was entirely positive. What attitude did you come on with? Are you expecting American-style service, with hovering waiters who try to be your new BFF? You don’t get that in Europe, and you need to understand that. We always treat staff with courtesy and respect, and we always get that in return.
Word to the wise: if you want paella (which is why you should be coming here), go early and place your order for later. We stopped by at 1:00 on a Wednesday, made a reservation for 4:00, and placed our order. They suggested we come at 3:30 - apparently a 4:00 reservation means that is when your paella will be ready. We went for a long walk on the beach with a couple of stops for refreshment and arrived back at 3:30. We ordered a nice bottle of white wine, and our paella arrived promptly at 4:00, hot and delicious. The total cost for paella for two, wine, water, and bread came to about €43.
It helps if you know some Spanish. The folks we made the reservation with didn’t speak English, but my high school Spanish sufficed, and they patiently helped as best they could. The waiter’s English was better than my Spanish, but he indulged me as I...
Read moreVery disappointing experience for €70. Several issues made this visit unpleasant:
Service Problems: Ordered 3 croquettes but received 4. When we asked if the extra one was complimentary (since we didn't order it), the server simply took it away with a fork - presumably to throw it out. Poor handling of their own mistake. Brought the paella while we were still eating our starter, leaving it awkwardly at the corner of the table instead of waiting or placing it properly. Had to rearrange plates ourselves and move starter dishes to another table to make room.
Outdoor Dining Issues: While dining on the outdoor terrace, there were thousands of flies with no measures in place to address this (no fans, repellent systems, etc.). The flies were particularly problematic when our paella sat unattended at the table corner, essentially becoming "free food for the flies." Had to constantly battle flies while trying to enjoy our meal.
Food Quality: Starters were mediocre at best The paella was actually good, which makes the poor service even more frustrating
For €70, we expected much better service and some basic measures to make outdoor dining comfortable. The restaurant has potential (the paella proves they can cook), but needs serious improvements in service training and outdoor dining management before I would...
Read moreOn our last day of holiday we popped into Llevant for a quick lunch before flying. My partner ordered the Mixed Paella which included chicken, shrimp and a mussel. Chicken was very dry and the entire paella was cold. She didn't eat the seafood with concern for whether it was safe. She also ordered Gazpacho which had a chemical after taste to it. I tried a spoonful and felt sick. I ordered the chicken burger, which consisted of two chicken patties with chips on the side. It was the last food to arrive and the chicken pattie felt warm and looked raw so we decided to pay and leave. The waiter could see we weren't eating our food but chose to ignore us as long as he could. Such a shame this was our last experience of the trip. All of the other restaurants we've visited during our stay here in Valencia and Madrid have been delightful...
