La Lupe Cantina — Restaurant in Arrecife

We had high hopes of this beautifully decorated Mexican restaurant after checking the menu the previous day.

The first sign of a problem came after confirming that the chicken for the Fajitas would be cooked together with the vegetables and not simply layered on. After taking the order the manager/waitress came back to say they had no chicken. A Mexican restaurant without chicken is a first in my experience. I reluctantly ordered the Fajitas de solomillo. It also seemed that she didn't appreciate my request for tortillas de mais (corn rather than flour).

I had asked for the menu in Spanish but her responses to my questions were uncompromisingly fast, perhaps my fault for trying to speak Spanish. However, my wife asked for a menu in English and was subjected to the same rapid fire Spanish response when she answered her question about the accompaniments for her pork dish in the same manner.

It is hard to describe the lady's manner but we found her brusque and overbearing, borderline intimidating, not unpleasant but beyond simply being super efficient.

We started with a bowl of the home made nachos with guacamole for a reasonable €5.30. My fajitas were well cooked but I don't think that beef absorbs the flavour of the peppers as well as chicken. The tortillas were the biggest I've ever seen. The size of a full dinner plate. There were only two with the order. This meant that I had to cut them in half to make them usable to parcel the beef and vegetables; but then I couldn't fold the semi eliptical cut shape properly. My wife's pork dish was enjoyable and she was grateful for the fact that it was not hot and spicy as described on the menu.

We didn't feel comfortable enough to enquire about dessert choices.

Service was terrible. Really terrible. My wife ordered beef fajitas. Chicken fajitas arrived. We pointed out the mistake and the server arrived down and she told us, no we had ordered the chicken. When we said we didn’t, she went back to the till to get her pad where she had written down the order. She pointed to where she had written chicken. I pointed out my wife had ordered beef and suggested she may have written the order incorrectly. She was not convinced.

She spoke to her male colleague and reluctantly agreed to replace the order. She said it would take 15 minutes. I asked could she take back my order and keep it warm until my wife’s order arrived. She did, but was not impressed at the inconvenience.

The male colleague silently brought us down our order. No one came near us while we ate, but I got a number of annoyed glances from the server. When we had finished she did come down to ask did we want desert. We declined.

Food was okay. But a very uncomfortable dining experience. We would not return. And definitely would...

Restaurante con una decoración asombrosa que te traslada a México 🇲🇽 y muy acogedor. Personal muy amable y atento 👌🏻

Toda la comida es casera y muy sabrosa, teniendo muy buena mano con todo lo que hacen (o al menos lo que probamos). Puedes adaptar el nivel de picante 🌶 y además no nos pusieron pegas al pedir dos tipos de tacos en una misma ración 👏🏻

No he estado en muchos restaurantes mexicanos 🇲🇽 pero sin duda este es el mejor en el que he estado.

Probamos lo siguiente:

𝐓𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐚 𝐏𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥 🌮: tortillas de maíz caseras (puedes ver como las hacen) con carne de cerdo 🐷 en adobo Yucateco y cebolla encurtida 🧅. La carne estaba súper jugosa, soltando mucho jugo al morder. Y la tortilla crujiente y muy rica 🤤. Opción muy recomendable ✅✅✅

𝐓𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬 🌮: me dejaron pedir dos unidades de cada uno (eran raciones de 4). Tortillas caseras como las anteriores con guiso de cerdo 🐷 con naranja 🍊, cebolla 🧅, cilantro 🌿 y salsa de aguacate 🥑. No los había probado nunca y la combinación me agradó mucho. La carne estaba también jugosa y los ingredientes combinaban muy bien. Recomendable ✅✅

𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐬 🧀: tortilla de trigo 🌾 súper tierna y casera , rellena de queso 🧀 y con los ingredientes que quisiéramos. Decidimos acompañarla por una mermelada de cebolla 🧅 ¡y qué acierto! 😍 Muy recomendables ✅✅✅

𝐓𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚 𝐝𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 🍫: postre muy estético, con forma de maceta 🪴, y muy rico. En su parte exterior tiene un crujiente de chocolate y almendras 🍫 pero según te adentras encuentras un helado de vainilla 🍨, nata y una mermelada de frutos del bosque🍓. Es coger una cucharada hasta el fondo con todo y disfrutar....
