The worst entrecot I’ve had in Spain/Barcelona in over 10 years.
The experience was made even worse by the waiter, who refused to listen and instead tried to deny everything.
I ordered the entrecot on the waiter’s recommendation. What I received was disappointment: a piece with uneven thickness (1–1.4 cm), a large portion of fat, and poor cooking due to the uneven thickness. Because of the thin cut, many parts were dry, while another section with thick fat was completely raw — not medium, as I had requested.
To make matters worse, I noticed a striking inconsistency: a lady at the next table ordered the same dish much later, was served a completely different entrecot. Hers was evenly cut (about 2 cm thick), nicely cooked, with no excess fat, beautifully presented on a wooden/bamboo plate, and accompanied by 3–4 green peppers. Mine, in contrast, arrived on a plain white plate with only 1 green pepper — a presentation you’d expect from a €13 menú del día in an industrial area bar outside Barcelona, but with even less quality on food.
When I pointed out the difference, the waiter insisted that “the grains should be the same” and that my piece was simply “wider.” In reality, mine was wider because of a significant portion of fat that had to be cut out, which also meant the actual meat was extremely thin and therefore very dry. When I mentioned the dryness, he flatly replied, “our entrecot is never dry.”
It became clear that because we booked with the 50% discount via The Fork, the same dish was not served to the same standard. If they didn’t do it on purpose, that means they are terrible at the consistency of quality served. I mentioned that I noticed this difference in quality, but instead of acknowledging or showing any willingness to listen, the waiter simply denied everything. Even with the discount, the whole experience was not...
