Set up by an ex-chef of restaurante el bullí, or so the newspaper article claims, this place serves charcoal grilled chicken in its varied avatars, resplendently. Dining space is small with bar style counter tops running along the length of the glass facade and another facing the Josper oven, which holds centre stage. A couple of tables outside on the pavement gives a touch of al fresco dining. But let's talk about what reigns supreme here. Chicken. The chicken grilled over charcoal in the spectacular Josper oven is worked over - fried with kimchi flavour and served with French fries that appeals to the young and young at heart; the meat pieces smothered in a delicious Thai red curry sauce appeals to those who like a bit of spice to light up the their lives ; the simple grilled chicken, infused with subtle flavours of herbs and goodness served with roasted potatoes shall appeal to the classicist; Tomato salad teases you with some of the juiciest, tastiest tomatoes; Grilled brinjal served cold draped in fine miso sauce. The restaurant also serves grilled vegetables and chicken canalones which I am yet to try. The place does a lot of business in takeaways and from the hustle and bustle seen there, it appears it has captured the fancy of the neighbourhood. I shall not be surprised if A Pluma opens more outlets given the...
Read moreBest rotisserie chicken in Barcelona. Also best fried chicken I've found thus far. I love rotisserie chicken and I'm addicted to the way they do it here. It's complemented nicely with a few vegetable options (I've had them all and they're all fabulous), and a couple other dishes. I've tried their sauces and I prefer the chicken normal, in its own juices. The quality of the food is top notch. They get busy so beware! Call to reserve a spot, or take away. The restaurant is small if you eat in, so expect to be arm to arm with your neighbors.
They are a "well oiled machine" and it's really fun to watch them prepare the food through the the lunch rush (I used to work in restaurants and the energy there during lunch makes me miss it).
Perhaps the best complement to them is that my husband has always hated rotisserie chicken, never ate it (so as a result I rarely ate it) but after I forced him to go here one time he was hooked. Now he craves it and we go once a week! #win!🙌
Btw I wasn't paid to write this review, haha. I'm just a...
Read moreWe're visiting Barcelona for a week and have tried many restaurants over the days. From expensive fine dining, to seafood and fish. But the best one by a long shot was Apluma. We've been back 4 times now and the half chicken with chimichuru sauce is the best thing I've tasted in a long while. The sauce itself is a nice savory addition but the real star is the chicken. It's amazing how consistently we'll cooked they are. They fall off the bone and have this nice grilled peppery taste to them. The skin has a nice char to it and the flavor penetrates the entire chicken.
Along with a side of beer and roasted potatoes this combination is hard to beat, especially...
