I recently discovered Chico Bar on Carrer de Mandri, 29 in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district of Barcelona, and it was a delightful first-time experience. This charming spot appears to be relatively new to the neighborhood but has already established itself as a worthy addition to the popular bar scene along Carrer de Mandri. The moment I walked in, I was struck by the cozy, inviting ambiance. Chico Bar has managed to create a space with distinct personality and character – warm lighting, thoughtful décor, and a layout that encourages both intimate conversations and social gatherings. It perfectly balances that fine line between trendy and comfortable, making it feel like a place you'd want to return to regularly. What made this visit particularly special was unexpectedly running into lifelong friends. There's something magical about discovering a new favorite spot and finding that your old friends have already adopted it as their own. The food was excellent – we enjoyed exceptional anchovies with pan con tomate that perfectly balanced the saltiness of the fish with the sweetness of the tomato-rubbed bread. The boquerones en vinagre (white anchovies marinated in vinegar) were fresh and flavorful with just the right amount of acidity. The gildas (Basque pintxos with olives, peppers, and anchovies) were another highlight – simple yet perfectly executed. We washed everything down with eight beers, and the total bill came to just €56.15, which felt like excellent value considering the quality of both food and experience. The service was attentive without being intrusive, adding to the relaxed atmosphere. Chico Bar has successfully carved out its own identity in an area known for its bar culture. Whether you're a local looking for your new regular spot or a visitor wanting to experience authentic Barcelona tapas culture away from the more touristy areas, Chico Bar is definitely worth seeking out. I'm already looking forward to...
Read moreI wish I could give 0 stars. Had to raise my hand and call the waitres(ses) for quiet awhile in order to get UTENSILS, sauce, and water.. which should be a basic necessity. We only ordered oysters and ended up spending two—almost three hours there. Can this place hire more employees? I knew that it was busy and I felt awful that the only 3 waitres(ses) were the only ones there scrambling to accommodate everyone. The worst service I have ever had. Btw, the oysters felt like i was biting into rocks. The worst oysters...
