The perfect neighborhood Italian restaurant. Open for lunch every day but Sunday.
I've had lunch at Disio about 25 times since I moved in around the corner a few months ago. It's simply wonderful. Fresh and light Italian food that leaves you ready for an active afternoon. Olive oil, fresh vegetables, burrata and parmesan, fresh basil.
This small restaurant is run by stunning and charming Lorena (pastry chef and waitress, who speaks English, Italian, and Spanish) and her husband (cook). There are no other employees.
There is always a selection of 6-8 first courses, most of which are light and salad-ish. Some are permanent; others vary from day to day. The cherry tomato salad, with a mustard vinaigrette and thin slices of Parmesan, is simple, light, and absolutely delicious, even when good tomatoes seem impossible to find in Barcelona.
There is also a selection of several main courses. A few pasta dishes--some traditional, some less so--and light takes on other Italian dishes, such as an eggplant parmesan made with smoked scamorza--that doesn't make you feel like you just ate a water buffalo. There is usually a seafood option, except on Monday.
Lorena's desserts are delicious, as one would expect from a trained pastry chef. There's always a selection of cakes and tiramisu. If you're in luck she'll have her signature tart, made with pistachio cream and fresh strawberries.
And the coffee is great.
14 euros for lunch, including water or a glass of wine, and dessert or coffee. A real bargain. This place is getting popular--no surprise there--so it's probably a good idea to reserve.

Read moreWe ate here twice and both meals were outstanding! It’s a small restaurant with terrace and dining room that serves excellent food with friendly service. The co-owner Lorena saw us waiting let us in before the opening and let us sit while they prepared for the lunch service. We agreed that people named “Lorena” are the nicest, and she lived up to the name. She made us feel right at home from the start. Every course on the Menu del Día was a delight. We started with a sublime lentil & spinach salad and a buffara salad with fruit. Our pasta was some of the best and freshest I’ve ever eaten, and the sauces were perfectly seasoned: trofie with artichokes & parmigiana, and pesto with cherry tomatoes. The desserts were elegant and delicious fruit and patisserie. We indulged in a bottle of wine (excellent) and expresso. The total was $50.00 and well worth it. Our second meal was also excellent: Quinoa salad, deconstructed ensalada rusa, seafood pasta, and gnocchi, apple cake and panna cotta. Highly...
Read moreIt’s a cozy place run by a lovely couple. Lorena, who was so kind, explained that her husband makes the food while she prepares the desserts.
The service was excellent, and even on a Monday lunchtime, the restaurant was full. We ordered the lunch menu, and everything was amazing! The portions were perfect, and I had La Trufotto, which was super creamy with a rich truffle flavor. It was a bit salty for me, but I’d definitely come back to try more dishes.
Highly recommend for both the food and the...
