El Mercat — Restaurant in Barcelona

The food is good, although I found it quite expensive. The outdoor space is beautiful. Staff is nice. However, they don’t number the tables and they keep on coming to your table and ask you if you ordered this or that. They asked us like 6 or 7 times while we were there having a couple of tapas. A bit annoying, if you don’t like being interrupted on your conversation. We ordered two tapas and bread. They charged 3x bread (we were 3 people) without even ask us. 7,5€ of bread. Absolutely ridiculous !!!! We complained and the waitress said that it’s “logical” that they do that (I found it an extremely inappropriate answer). They finally waived 2x of bread from our bill, but they ruined the whole experience and, obviously, we will never go back to that place again. It’s a shame, because the place is fantastic. Nice location but the service and food wasn’t up to standard. Our order didn’t get through properly and we had to reorder. When the meal came it wasn’t what we expected. The menu said goats cheese omelette but in fact it was a type of sausage. When we queried it they didn’t really care. When the bill came it was a different price to what it said on the menu and the explanation given was there’s a 10% tax on top. Never had that before. No apology. Beer tasted off. Toilets were out of order. No soap no hand dryer or paper towels. Some of the staff were rude and didn’t really care. I don’t usually post reviews but this time I just felt I should to warn people. There are many other better restaurants. I expect the owner to respond with many explanations as to why our experience wasn’t good but all I’m doing is honestly relating...

I went with my girlfriend for her birthday lunch. We had to order our food 3 times with 1 waiter, than 2 more times with other one and finally when we order with manager we receive correct one, after so many mistakes and 1 hour waiting for food. My girlfriend finish her food half an hour before I received mine one, and they make my fried squid in rush, was so hard and undercooked. Manager apologies only when I complain for food. Lastly after all that situation we order a beer, to cool down and some bread to eat with the olive we saved after my gf dish. They brought us a bill even if we didn't ask for it.
