El Portal dels Encants — Restaurant in Barcelona

This place appears as a small corner café. At the time we visited most of the clientele were construction workers, presumably working on the many local building projects in the area. We were in the neighborhood to visit the Mercat dels Encants flea market. The service was friendly and helpful. The food was brought out quickly and was delicious. The prices were fair and the server was very kind. I had the English breakfast, which was not technically all that constitutes that term, but it was tasty and satisfying and well worth the price. My wife fell in love with their jamón Serano and manchego cheese sandwiches. If passing by, do not count this place out. It is very nice...

Fui una vez expresamente a ver un concierto en concreto, primero pido una mediana en la barra, el camarero A me cobra 2 euros, se la pago, hasta ahí bien, empieza el concierto, me siento en una mesa, como había la musica alta pido otra mediana gestualmente señalando mi botellín ya vacío al camarero B, el camarero B canoso y con cara de pocos amigos me hace señas con dos dedos queriendo decir 2 euros, camarero B me trae la mediana y le pago con un billete de 5 eur, camarero B me trae luego el cambio y...oh sorpresa! me devuelve solo un euro cuando me tenía que devolver 3!! Acto seguido voy para la barra para reclamar mi cambio correcto, camarero B echa la culpa del supuesto error a camarero A, camarero B me devuelve el cambio correcto con malas maneras casi tirando las monedas, sin disculparse ni mirarme a la cara, daba la sensación de que le dio rabieta que me diera cuenta de su fallo.

Conclusión: gracias a las malas artes y la nula amabilidad camarero B no creo que vuelva más a este lugar, si pongo 2 estrellas en lugar de 1 es porque por lo menos se programa periódicamente...

They seemed to speak English, but the repeated request for to-go did not really work (the 1 thing that other non-English speakers dó understand here). It made me wonder if they did it on purpose?

As a coffee perfectionist: The coffee was brewed too hot, it made it taste burnt and it was also a bit weak.
