Parc de les Glòries — Attraction in Barcelona

Far too much concrete, far too little greenery. Too hot and unsheltered in summer, too exposed in winter, hard on the feet (how about some springy walk/run tracks), depressing on the soul, and all under the gaze of the looming big brother presence of the design museum - a cut and paste piece of undergraduate architecture that has near siblings all across the continent. In the last few years travelling I've seen about half a dozen spaces in Europe that are so similar to this, and so similarly ill conceived that i forgot what city, even what country I was even in. Nothing about the area says Spain, Catalonia or Barcelona - and nothing suggests it will survive as anything other than a litter strewn waste ground 10 or 20 years from now. Even the children's playground looks like a prison exercise ground. This would be bad anywhere, but in one of the great architectural capitals of the world...

El 26/4/2025 Barcelona ha estrenat la part que quedava per obrir del parc de les Glòries i ha completat la transformació d'un espai de la ciutat que ha estat en obres més d'11 anys. Amb una superfície d'unes 4,3 hectàrees, el parc que s'ha obert dona continuïtat a la part que es va estrenar el 2019, on hi ha la gran clariana. Amb tot el parc complet, d'unes 9 hectàrees, s'han guanyat més de 1.000 arbres. El parc dona continuïtat a peu al traçat de la Diagonal i la Meridiana Com a nous espais, destaca un umbracle per fer actes a l'ombra, un espai polivalent envoltat de bambús i una àrea de joc infantil formada per dues anelles de grans dimensions. També hi ha una àrea d'esbarjo per a gossos de 1.200 m² i un parc d'aigua que obrirà els mesos d'estiu. A més, el parc connecta amb l'intercanviador de transport públic de Glòries, on conflueixen l'L1 del metro, les línies del Trambesòs i diverses línies de bus urbà. La idea de convertir Glòries en un parc arriba a principis dels 2000 i es materialitza el 2007 amb el Compromís per Glòries, on es concreta l'enderroc de l'anella viària que es va construir pels Jocs del 1992, soterrar la Gran Via i fer nous equipaments i habitatge. Segons l'Ajuntament de Barcelona, des del 2008 s'han invertit en tot aquest àmbit de la ciutat 640 milions d'euros. Però encara queden equipaments i habitatge per fer. Les entitats veïnals han celebrat l'obertura del parc, però reclamen els equipaments i l'habitatge pendent. Espero que els visitants...
