Passable stay falling well short of the standards expected of a Hoxton stay.
Overall - 2/5 Overall, a passable stay falling well short of the standards expected of a Hoxton stay.
Location - 4/5. Located in the Poblenou area, the hotel is slightly further away from the main tourist attractions. Getting to the main tourist attractions on foot would take up to 30 to 45 min and around 20 min on metro. It is, however, located in front of a Westfield which is very convenient for essentials and shopping.
Room - 3/5. Room was beautifully finished but there were some issues:
Service - 1/5. Despite reporting issues with the bath, it wasn’t fixed. We also had issue with the room not being cleaned after coming back after a long day out. We remembered getting a welcome message from Hoxton on WhatsApp saying that Housekeeping is always available on request, so we asked for the room to be cleaned only to be told that the cleaners had gone home and the room not being cleaned was because we left a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the door although we were 100% sure that we did not leave the sign on the door. This happened a few times where the excuse for not cleaning the room was that we left the sign on the door not to be disturbed so one day we took a photo of the door before we left and sent it to reception team to prove that we did not have the sign on it. You shouldn't need to do this at any hotel, let alone a 4 star hotel.
At checkout, we asked for a receipt because the amount they charged us did not seem right. Despite repeatedly asking for it, the person at reception refused to give it to us and only said it will be emailed to us. I would suggest insisting on getting a receipt before you leave because trying to dispute the bill after leaving is a nightmare.
Facilities - Limited access to pool as reported by other reviewers. After 10.30am, there is a minimum spend of 40 euros per person for a sunlounger or 80pp for a cabana and you only have a 2.45 hour slot. Technically the hotel says you could use the pool without a sunlounger but there is nowhere to put your stuff so in essence, you can’t really. We were asked by the hotel staff to leave at 10.30 even though 80% of sunlounger were not being used so even if the sunloungers are available you can't use them unless you pay. The main reason for booking this hotel was the pool so we did feel like we we were missold on this.
Price - 3/5. A lot of money to pay for a pool that you have to pay to use each time, poor customer service, room facilities that are not in proper...
Read moreThis was our second destination for our honey moon and it has been quite disappointing.
There are a lot of things that were not right but I will only focus on a few.
Location - location is very poor and far from where it’s all happening, but it wasn’t an issue for us initially as we were planning to spend most of the time at the pool.
Pool - we booked Hoxton thinking that we will spend most of our time on the pool drinking cocktails and eating Mexican.
It’s impossible to get a cabana or sun bed at the pool, you have to book and we first arrived and asked to book and we were told that the place is fully booked for the next 3 days ( we only had 3 days there) and that we had to go there in the morning and put our name down for the waiting list. We were able to book for 2,5 hours on or last day. That was it.
The bar and restaurant seats are also commonly taken since they allow the public to come upstairs and eat.
The restaurant upstairs has only a few options to choose from and service was extremely poor. They messed up our order twice then they overcharged us as well. Unfortunately the staff doesn't even care or been taught to apologise when they mess things up, and that’s all we expected, we all do mistakes but being arrogant about it is not right. We have been leaving 10-20% tip each time and I think that is an issue. They know they will get the tip so they don’t care. Maybe customers including me should stop tipping. The host upstairs was the only one that was nice and polite.
Cafe downstairs - It has again limited food but the staff seemed friendly. However i got humiliated from the host there called Agnes.
I checked in at the entrance, provided my room number and was given a seat. I had breakfast and the provided me the bill. I signed, left a tip and walked out. I was then yelled at in front of everyone down the road by the host Agnes saying ‘mr mr you have to pay’ I felt the most embarrassed in my life, as if I was doing a runner..
I then went back and I was told the system is down and that I may have to pay. Then the host went inside and told the waitress to tell me it’s all good. She didn’t even come to apologise..I felt humiliated…
First if there is an issue with the system tell me when I check in the cafe.
Second, if there is an issue with the system, tell me when you print the bill to me, even if I haven’t asked for it at that time.
I have been traveling for 25 years and I have never seen such bad behaviour as Agneses. Authoritative, rude and disgusting.
Rooms- rooms are nice but not clean properly. We had a stain on the pillow on the bed on the first night and it was there on the second night as well. On our third night the stain had been removed. I will post a photo for readers to determine what this stain was.
Finally it felt that advice given from the hotel in relation to places to go was purposely intending to keep us in the neighbourhood so that we don’t see how cool The places in the town are and decide to not book this hotel again in the future. We were told to go the Main Street around the corner which is full of cool bars and restaurants. This area felt like it was from the Early 90,s and there no bars.
The only positive from this experience was that the staff at the bar down stairs were really nice, and the reception staff was also nice and did put effort in. Especially the young...
