I don't normally review places that I've visited while away. Nor do I normally visit Irish barsナナ. preferring in general to sample the best of local authentic produce that the area I'm visiting has to offer (which up until now I had narrow mindedly assumed could only be found in locally sounding establishments!). But I've learned something this time and this is why I make exception and write this reviewナ.
Flaherty's of Barcelona is an exceptional establishment. Somewhere I wouldn't have stumbled across had it not been for the insistence of my friend on meeting there, while I spent a week in Barcelona recently.
Soft lighting, wood panelling and thick stone walls manage to combine rustic pub with a funky cosmopolitan bar feel - all in all making for a really pleasurable place to be. The warmth and friendliness of the staff are the icing on the cake ナ and gave me a dangerous sense of not wanting to leave!
Service was prompt and professional yet easy and friendly. I couldn't fault it. The food was absolutely outstanding and completely won me overナ lesson learned ナ. in a cosomopolitan city like Barcelona ナ you don't have to be Catalan to serve the best of local produceナ. Here in this authentic, yet cosmopolitan, Irish bar ナ I had what can only be described as the best food by far that Barcelona has to offer (and I've spent a lot of time eating out in Barcelona over the years!).
The angus striploin beef is an absolute must have. Served on a hot stone it was cooked to absolute perfection and without doubt the best steak I have ever tastedナ and I thought I had tasted the best .. given that I normally buy mine from my local butcher who rears and slaughters his own organic angus beefナ. To say I was surprised at the quality and taste of this meat was an understatement. It was accompanied by the most delicious wine recommended to us by the manager. Rich and full bodied, it was the perfect pairing.
My only gripe with this place is that it has left me wanting more!! It will certainly be my first stop on future trips to Barcelona. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.
Great for families, couples, groups of friends or if travelling alone. It is full of friendly faces with a sunny terrace and a perfect playground at arm's lengthナ. This place ticks...
Read moreI visited Flaherty's, an authentic Irish pub located in Barcelona, and my experience was absolutely fantastic. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the warm and vibrant atmosphere the bar offers. The decor is typically Irish, with dark wood tones, green accents, and an ambiance that transports you directly to Dublin.
Ambiance: 5 Stars
The ambiance is simply impeccable. The pub perfectly balances a lively and comfortable atmosphere, ideal for both a quiet night and watching major sports events. During my visit, I watched the Euro Champions and a Formula 1 race, and the atmosphere was electrifying. Well-positioned, high-quality screens ensure you don't miss a single detail of the game or race, no matter where you are seated.
Food: 5 Stars
The food is another highlight of Flaherty's. The Buffalo Wings are absolutely delicious, crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside, with just the right amount of spicy sauce. The ribs, on the other hand, are out of this world – extremely tender and falling off the bone, accompanied by a mouth-watering barbecue sauce. Besides these specialties, the menu offers a variety of dishes that will surely please all tastes.
Service: 5 Stars
The service at Flaherty's is exemplary. The staff are quick, polite, and very efficient. Even on busy nights, the service does not lose its quality, and you are attended to with friendliness and professionalism. Orders arrive at the table quickly, and the waiters are always attentive to ensure nothing is missing.
Conclusion
Flaherty's is undoubtedly one of the best Irish pubs I have ever visited. Throughout my stay in Barcelona, I frequented the pub regularly. Whether for its cozy atmosphere, exceptional food, or top-notch service, the place deserves all five stars. It is the perfect spot for anyone looking to enjoy good food and drink while watching their favorite sports. I highly recommend it to anyone in Barcelona seeking an unforgettable experience in a...
Read moreIf you're looking for a decent Irish breakfast look elsewhere. This was among the worst I've had at any restaurant anywhere in the world.
First off you are not allowed to swap out anything on the menu according to our waitress. A lot of places appreciate that not everyone enjoys eating tomatoes or mushrooms for example, and will let you swap them out for something else as a replacement.. but not here apparently. We were told we could pay €1 extra for any extras but we could not take out anything from the set breakfast. If the place was busy I could understand because it can cause a lot confusion in the kitchen.. but there was only three other tables eating food when we ordered.
The food itself was awful as well. Undercooked cheap sausages with a weird gritty texture. Fatty rashers which were somehow burned but not crispy. Mushrooms didn't look very fresh and they clearly hadn't been cooked very long. Thin pathetic slivers of pudding. Worst of all.. the menu mentions "slow roasted tomato" as one of the ingredients in the full Irish, which sounds lovely.. What we received was a grilled end of a tomato where you'd normally find the stem. It was the leftover bit of a tomato that you cut off when chopping. It was inedible. The most baffling part is that BOTH of us got the end piece!? How could any self respecting chef send that out?
We still stomached most of the food because we were starving, but honestly the only enjoyable thing about the breakfast was the fried egg and toast, but I would abandon all hope if they somehow got that wrong.
Fair warning to any groups considering eating here.. You cannot split your bill either.
Avoid! This is the farthest thing from a...
